its a farily huge site... makes me wonder

It would have to be a good chunk can you imagine the bandwith that site must go through in a month must be a large bill every month.

I have two somewhat similiar sites. One with 40k hits per day and one with 120k per day. Combined, they pull in a pretty good chunk of change.

exactly he has to be making some nice change to be able to have a huge bill for his hosting + extra revenue

Where do you get your content from? and do you work on the site yourself? or do you have employees? if so, how many?

I have blogs that are similar. Yep, this type of content/community makes money

not to mention most of the advertising deals he offers are sold out which in something this big in and the Internet can only mean he is making serious money ;)
