Is it time to start making sites 1024x768?
hmmm...?
|
No most people still go 800x600
|
I wonder... what are the current statistics?
|
i think 800x600 is a good number.
480,000 pixels yay! |
still 800x600
|
800x 600 is the safest bet...all those others are too damn small
|
you mean I have to convert all the stuff I have that's 640x480? :(
|
most of my work is between 710 and 740 wide.
I think anticipating 800x600 is the safe bet these days. |

yup - still gotta respect the 800'ers |

the real problem is that tgp's and link lists will not accept anything but 800x600, so that is what you are stuck with.
|
If porn websites didn't need to be so graphic intense, it would be much easier to design websites that fit the screen no matter what, and always looked good...
|
Even if folks have bigger monitors thes days, I bet most don't run their browser maximized (I like to keep mine at 800 wide, so I can see other programs running along the side, e.g. instant messaging programs).

800x600: ~30% of page accesses. 1024x768 and higher: ~67% of page accesses The best approach is to design pages which size themselves, because anything else means you are not optimized for a sizeable chunk of your audience. However that can be fairly tricky with graphic-intensive sites, so for now if you work on fixed sizes, you pretty much have to design for the smaller size. Which seems to be the general practise. What we don't seem to have as good a grasp of (judging by the tendency towards massive page sizes) is that even in the US broadband penetration is still only around 55%. Korea is among a handful of countries with higher broadband penetration, but otherwise the rest of the world isn't even at US levels. On the topic of compatibility, it's also interesting that the use of IE has fallen from a high of 94% down to around 84% and still declining. That's relevant to anyone using CSS because Explorer has a lot of non-compliancy issues. If you checked your design in IE, there is a good chance your site won't look right in Netscape, Firefox, Opera or whatever, unless you included some workarounds. |

1024x768
We have been designing all our sites in 1024x768 format for the past year.
Seems to be the default resoulution of most new computers these days. We have had no complaints from viewers or members since we changed. |
neeehhhh..
|
we are building this site right now in a 1024 layout

Designing a site to fit a certain screen resolution is stupid 95% of the time.
|
depends on the niche of the site.
i.e.; artistic or boutique erotica sites should be setup with bigger screen size because those surfers will demand high rez, and have the hardware for it. |

It is better to have a page at 800x600 and have it be a little small for 1024x768 users, than have your 800x600 surfers get a horizontal scroll bar. Speaking of which, I wish GFY was 800x600 + firefox friendly.

still 800*600

My stats for Jan
1024 x 768 49.49% 800 x 600 33.93% 1280 x 1024 8.07% 1152 x 864 3.25% 1600 x 1200 2.78% Unknown 1.34% 640 x 480 0.98% |
most people still go 800x600. But you need to do your site that will goog looking for both of them as 800x800 and 1024...... For example we did it for our sites as www.defloration.com www.naked-gymnast.com
|
my take is paysites: 800x600
TGP galleries: 800x600 free sites is the grey area.. If you have a ton of traffic and content then go with 1024x768 but a small to medium sized free site should stay 800x600 |
maybe, maybe not.
