why do americans think they have the audacity to police the world

I can't understand how a nation of travel/culture ignorant people think that they have the knowlage to tell others how to act in their own country. after all the best statistics still only state that 25% own passports... is that because there are not many trailer parks in other countries???

I'll tell you one thing...If America had been policing your homeland of Asia, there wouldn't be 150,000 dead and counting right now...

It wouldn't have sat still for 3 hours and let it's people die all for the sake of "tourism".

I'm not seeing your argument at all.
We have the audacity to "police the world" because we don't travel enough?
How are we ignorant of [our] culture?

I'm confused (typical American, eh?).

there were probably more brits in 1800 holding passports than there are americans holding them present day.... but at least the brits gave you a decent legal system.
:winkwink:

bangman 01-13-2005 07:13 AM

For the sake of a piss-war, i'm going to assume your "points" were elaborated in that link.
I didn't read it, just so you know.

Whatever the answer is it also takes hold in Canada. What do you suspect it is, genius?

Canada. Population. 32,507,874
Passports. 7 million
SOURCE: http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/departm...ing/302-en.asp

% of Canadians owning passports. 21.7%. The exact same estimate the author of that article makes in his first calculation.

abadfish 01-13-2005 07:17 AM

Probably because someone needs to do it and the UN certainly isn't capable of it.

I just ordered my first passport and I am 22... I think everyone should travel abroad and own a passport here but not everyone wants to or can afford to. I doubt in my lifetime I will be able to see all of the great things my own country has to offer without even ever needing a passport to see.

Of course they did. But the answer has nothing to do with passports. Duh.

I got my (now expired) passport when I was 7. I'm 20 now. Traveled only to London, England and the surrounding areas. I sure wish I could go back there today.

And now the US gives it to the world. You think everyone is learning English these days to speak to the British? Maybe we should be thanking the Germans. Um gott.

Yes, he did for seven minutes. I don't like Bush, don't get me wrong. But being under attack at that moment and having 3 hours advanced warning are two completely different things. If we'd had 3 hours advanced warning about 9/11, there would be no 9/11...

Sat still...what are you talking about??? name your info source... and the tourist areas hit were by far the minority... when you finally get yourself a passport maybe you will have the oppertunity to expand your obvious lack of geographical knowlage.

It's not about "nice". It's about power and money. People used to learn Latin, another generation learned French and now it's English. In 100 years maybe it'll be Chinese.

Definitely...If only because the Bush administration has too many others negatives to have absorbed something like that. But I suspect people would have been warned, no matter what.

Furious_Female 01-13-2005 07:59 AM

Because the US gives more money, services, supplies, aide etc than any other country in the world. With money comes certain rights and privledges. If some countries don't agree with this, they shouldn't take anything from us. It seems some countries want no strings attached gifts and benefits. It doesn't work like that.

You know as a country you are doing something right when you are the only one criticized in a forum like this. Boy, its hard being #1!

"why do americans think they have the audacity to police the world"

because we are bigger and stronger, and the rest of the world expects it from us... So quit crying, pull your own weight and we won't have to...:pimp
