yahoo?

i am receiving over 1000 hits a day from yahoo, but i never submitted my site there. i thought you had too pay to get listed

GiggleBerries 10-30-2001 09:32 AM

Nope, you don't have to pay to get listed. What you do have to pay for is keyword placement or if you start a new site and want it to show up in yahoo right away.

you can also get yahoo traffic if your listed in google, yahoo uses google for their secondary search traffic, so if there aren't many links in the yahoo database that match they surfers search they will then get the web links which actually come from google http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/smile.gif How well are those 1000/day hits converting for you ?? I get 2K a day on one of my domains from yahoo, and I'm getting around 1/600 at maxcash.

I think GiggleBerries is confusing yahoo with one of the other engines. I know that you can pay for keywords in overture.com formerly goto.com, and a couple of the other pay per click engines, but yahoo is a $600 per listing for adult related sites.

Our search engine plan of attack has been to use www.positiontech.com to get in the Inktomi engine, we then add the link to the new site from all of our pages that are already listed in google.com to get the new site spidered also. Using this method we can ramp up to around 250 - 750 hits a day within 60 days, and it only costs us $60 since we submit 5 pages for each new site. (** Note we use a program that feeds the search engines targeted doorway pages whenever they spider, and we submit 5 of these pages to get a good set of keywords and phrases).

We then use the $$'s that we make from the site to pay for the $600 yahoo listing, which is normally within the first few months. We might also kick in $79 to list it at altavista, they don't send as much traffic as yahoo, but then again they are only a 1/10th of the price http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/smile.gif

And finally we shift into maintance mode, and we allocate 15% of the sites revenue to buying traffic on overture.com, we play around with keywords and phrases, but have found that the cheaper bids don't always payoff as well as bidding more and getting listed in the top 3 spots which are seen on a much wider scale.

We are working on site 21 right now using this method, and so far it has been a very repeatable, and very profitable http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/smile.gif I hope this helps with your own SE plan of attack.

Save your money from yahoo,,,

get listed in DMOZ for free
then you will get traffic from yahoo

unless your one of the editors top choices i can't see how the $600 is worth getting a buried listing in the long list of useless sites

Actually playa your wrong, yahoo doesn't get anything from dmoz any longer, all the website links now come from google's engine. Granted there are some links to dmoz in the google database, but I doubt there are enough, and are listed high enough to get any significant amount of traffic, you may have one specific site with a set of keywords that happens to get good traffic from your listing in dmoz, but by and large that would not be the case for everyone else http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/frown.gif I would also argue that whenever you can pay a onetime $600 fee and get anywhere from 200 to 10K hits a day, that for me convert better than 1:700 across the board, then that is a safe bet to make every day of the week!!! http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/smile.gif

Anyone else out there getting yahoo traffic ?? What do you convert at ?? Would you pay the $600 if you had to do it all over again ?? Thanks for your input!

I've bought Yahoo listings for 5 sites, and will buy more. I noticed a decrease in traffic after Yahoos last rankings display change. I figure I convert about 1:800 now. In midsummer it was closer to 1:500.

Bill8 -

I also have noticed a drop since they got rid of the top sites listings at the top of the page, I seemed to get listed there quite a bit and it would drive almost 2x as much traffic http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/frown.gif Oh well, they might just be running some tests, hopefully they will reset it back to the old layout. Anyone else have yahoo listing ?? would you pay the $$$'s to get listed again if you had it all to do over again ??

I had one site go from 1200 a day to 400 a day- and the traffic was lower quality as well. Those aren't huge numbers by most standards but this was about as creamy traffic as you are ever gonna get. I'm waiting and watching for a little while, otherwise I'd have bought more BusExpress listings. In general I'd say the productivity of a yahoo listing may have just gone down.
