DO NOT use ValueWeb hosting

my aunt went and bought hosting from them, and then called and asked me to set some things up..

well, this is the 3rd time ive had to call their tech support within 4 hours..

my favorite call went like this..

me: When I FTP, there's no cgi-bin to upload to

them: Okay sir, just create a directory, and name it cgi-bin, then permission it to 777 and you'll be good to go
:1orglaugh :1orglaugh

Whats funny about that? You are laughing because they didn't make a CGI-BIN for you and you didn't know how to make one?

Advanced Intellect 01-12-2005 11:47 AM

Wow value web brings back memories. I remember using them main stream long ago when I first started on the web.

Tech support is right though. Create the bin and change the permissions. Not a big deal.

If the above is what he gave you, i think he gave you the wrong permissions for cgi-bin on valueweb their setup requires 755 for the cgi-bin directory and everything in it for scripts to work :thumbsup

i had used valueweb when i first started and didn't know anything.
this was almost 5 years ago and they were kings of customer/tech support.
i had questions relating to my web building software and they helped me with those.
