Wheres the best place to go in Australia

Wheres the best place to spend a week or so in Australia around March?

pxxx 01-11-2005 08:03 PM

I dont know anything about Australia.

plasman 01-11-2005 08:07 PM

A week isn't long enough to get over the trip, 2 weeks minimum, a month preferably, although I will prob be going for a week in March :)

I am biased but I would say go to Perth on the West coast, it's a lot like San Diego was in the 60's (or so I hear).. as regards unspoilt beaches, friendly people, good climate, lottsa fresh seafood etc

Theo 01-11-2005 08:08 PM

sydney i guess

Theo 01-11-2005 08:09 PM

What do you mean get over the trip? Jet lag? I'd be flying from Hawaii, so it wouldn't be that bad of a flight.

Is it possible to in Sydney (isn't that on the East cost?) and fly over to the West side for two or three days?

That's like asking, where's the best place to spend a week or so in the USA around March?

Australia is as large as the continental USA and just as geographically diverse.

The question you have to ask yourself is what do you want to do when you are here?

fünkmaster 01-11-2005 08:14 PM

... there is nothing to be seen here, stay away, thanks.

I'd be a tourist, so I'd want to do tourist things. Go to beaches, go on a safari and see some kangaroos, hook up with hot Australian broads, party, etc.

You need more than a week. Trust me on this.

pornRefinery 01-11-2005 08:22 PM

Perth...

dunefield 01-11-2005 08:23 PM

March you have to spend it in Melbourne... We have the grand prix and the club festivals are happening that weekend as well such a 2 tribes and blah blah...

If you're into the nightlife Melbourne is the go...

any aussie having his own tasman at home? :glugglug

dodger21 01-11-2005 08:55 PM

If you've never been, Sydney is a definate must see. The Gold Coast is beautiful, and Cairns, well, you've got the reef if you're into that shit. I'll be back there in July.

bawdy 01-11-2005 09:13 PM

I live in brisbane which is kinda nice... but melbourne would be great in march and is a pretty big city... sydney is pretty good also... wouldnt bother with west australia unless there was something specific you want to see/do there

Spunky 01-11-2005 09:22 PM

Melbourne sounds like a great place to check out

d00t 01-11-2005 09:57 PM

my gf came over from the states last year and i took her on this trip;

3 days in syd
2 days in canberra
1 week in bris
4 days in cairns/port douglass
a trip out to ayres rock
and a few days in rural victoria
then a week in tasmania

then you've seen it all

australia really isnt that exciting.. you'll be begging to go back home after a few days..

enjoy the trip though!

Ok HNL to SYD is about 9 hours I think.

The only good thing about going for a week is that it will give you a quick taste of the place and have you planning your next trip back before you even leave there.

Just party it up in Sydney for a week then and try and squeeze in an outback safari and a day on the Great Barrier reef. Maybe even a package deal would make the best use of your time if you don't have friends there.

A lot of it depends on who you happen to meet there, tourists or locals. Go with a "try anything" attitude and don't talk too much about America being the greatest country in the world and you will be fine

Shoehorn! 01-11-2005 11:21 PM

Thats for the advice so far, I appreciate it. Someone suggested I make a stop in Surfers Paradise, any opinions on that?

okny 01-11-2005 11:40 PM

Honorable Rat 01-12-2005 12:21 AM

Damn that made me feel homesick :(

I used to live in Queenstown.... And Milford is the only place on the planet that actually made me cry - it really is breathtaking, literally!

Go to NZ instead!!

nojob 01-12-2005 12:40 AM

my cousin did a semester aborad in brisbane and said it was really nice there.

wdforty 01-12-2005 12:45 AM

Darling Harbour is pretty cool, in Sydney..

But as a city, I prefer Melbourne, and the Casino is better :)

Sausage 01-12-2005 12:56 AM

Avoid Sydney ... its like being in Lebanon and smells strange.

Brisbane/Gold Coast is a nice combination and a 1hr drive from eachother. You can spend a couple of days in Brisbane doing touristy things, then head down to the Gold coast for a few days. They also have a whole bunch of touristy things between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Wan't a slightly more unpopulated experience then fly up from Brisbane to Cairns or one of the islands off the Queensland east coast.

Sausage 01-12-2005 12:58 AM

Oh yeah Perth is lovely, but its a big flight and if you are only here for a week then probably not worth doing from Honalulu. Also Perth is quite a distance from most other places.

foxxx 01-12-2005 01:03 AM

gold coast bro...

#1 place to be...

heaps of clubs and night life, awesome day life on the beach...

50 mins drive from Brisbane, 1hr flight to sydney if you wanna do a day trip there...

foxxx 01-12-2005 01:05 AM

but if your traveling during march, i recomend going to Melbourne for the F1, that's where me and my girl will be :D

Come and say G'DAY!
You will have to take your pick; Australian Football, Cricket, Surfing, Bushwalking, Scuba Diving, Skiing, Fishing.

How about just come over and see some wildlife =)

monaro 01-12-2005 01:42 AM

If you have picked your pleasure and now looking for someplace to stay.
holidaymode.com.au/redhot_specials.shtml = Useful URL

If you need to decide what's on in March 2005.. Search 'G' for "March 2005 Australia"

There is just too much going on to list for you.

Have a great day

Mark

does australia have nice big fat lobsters?

Living For Today 01-12-2005 02:28 AM

A week really is not very much time!

So I'd suggest hitting up Brisbane for two days and the gold coast for the rest. There are a number of tourist parks in between Brisbane and the Coast (Dreamworld, Movieworld, Seaworld and if it's still warm Wet'n'wild (water theme park) and at night there is plenty of nightlife in and around Surfers Paradise. Of course there are so many options but with only a week stay I'd say that is your best bet!
