My cat chews through all my fucking cords...

He's the nicest cat ever, so I wouldn't give him up, but he chews through all my video game cords, network cables, etc.

I tried putting tabasco sauce on them, but it doesn't really work.

Will he grow out of it? He's about 9 months old.

sickkittens 01-11-2005 02:20 PM

One of my rats ate 2 sets of speaker wires on me...the cat will eventually stop.

xclusive 01-11-2005 02:21 PM

Just like a baby it's still teething and maybe if you got it some more chew toys it would stop

Fucksakes 01-11-2005 02:22 PM

de-teeth him maybe lol.

jt420 01-11-2005 02:24 PM

cat nip him up, get him addicted and then he will sleep, eat and surf gfy all day. wait im thinking about pot and myself...

in all seriousness i had the same problem with my old roomies cat when it was still young. I purchased this plastic piping to run all my cables thru that was super thick. It looked ugly but its better then buying new cords every week.

Don't get him addicted to cat nip!!!! That's not good

Try rubbing the tabasco all through his mouth when u see him chewing on the cords...I guarantee the kitty will stop..

The only problem with that is we don't catch him chewing most of the time. He does it at night.

Try to give her some attention. Mine rips whole DIN4 papers into small pieces sometimes..

You should try some electroshock therapy...

Vitasoy 01-11-2005 03:09 PM

How about like a cat mouth piece? Put the cat in a room at night where it can't chew.

Indica 01-11-2005 03:10 PM

sprinkle pepper on ur cords. that should do the trick.

arg 01-11-2005 03:12 PM

802.11 network, rf keyboard & mouse, bluetooth speakers. All he'll have left are power cords, and I'm pretty sure the power cords can fend for themselves. :)

BitterPen 01-11-2005 03:22 PM

They sell special sprays at Walmart or your local pet supply place that will stop cats and dogs from chewing on stuff. :thumbsup

mortenb 01-11-2005 03:24 PM

You could put the power line on top.. That would stop the cat from chewing on wires again.

Sounds like someone is due for a trip to the microwave... :small-smi

He will learn once he starts chewing through power cords =) Guaranteed that will break his habit.

Yep. The spray is called "Apple Bitter", and it's for plants, so that cats won't eat them. I spray it on cords whatever, and it works great. Any pet shop will know exactly what "apple bitter" is.

Goose 01-11-2005 04:22 PM

must have been a hamster in his former life ;)

Ramos 01-11-2005 04:25 PM

Have you thought about sitting him down and expressing your thoughts about the situation? I am sure if he understood your position that he would stop.

A good talking to should clear everything up!

You should just buy something that they cannot chew through and place your cords in there.

I feel your pain we recently rescued an older puppy that was abandoned and abused. The first day I left her alone she dug a 1foot hole thru my floor into the basement:( I had to get her a kennel for when we leave. She still chews on everything though...

Morphious 01-11-2005 05:31 PM

Here is your solution, ( will take time and patiences! but worked for me! )

take hot sauce and place on a towel and rub on all your cables, repeat a few times ( about once a week for a month or so , ) and they will 1005 stop chewing on your cables.

My cat's have chewed through many of my cables, but I put an end to it when she chewed trough a 1,000 Kimber D60 video cable

wargames 01-11-2005 05:33 PM

Get some chew toys.

ProjectNaked 01-11-2005 05:53 PM

My cat does the same thing and also tangles up all my wires in my office.
Its a pain in the butt so i got a big Pit Bull and the problem just went away.
However i havent seen my cat for a while.
Just kidding...
I use a high pressure air squirt can and it really works great.

Good luck :thumbsup

Firehorse 01-12-2005 08:47 AM

I used to have a few Kittens and they chewed my computer cables, speaker wires almost everything. :helpme

Once they were older they were older they were no problem. :)
