I agree.Lens had to shut the threads down due to a possibility that he was being a disgruntled employee.I think the right thing to do is have these threads reopened

From the article:
The complaint alleges that the defendants were part of a network of corporations that violated the FTC?s Adult Labeling Rule by often failing to include the required ?SEXUALLY-EXPLICIT:? email subject heading and violating the opt-out provisions that require all email to include links that allow receivers to unsubscribe.

Sounds like they got the easy targets.. ones that didn't even bother to comply with can-spam. I guess they didn't read can-spam.. you follow the guidelines and spamming is ok :1orglaugh

Yup, what he said sounded right.

They're listed as a defendant:

"Defendants in the complaint include: Global Net Solutions, based in Las Vegas, Nevada; Global Net Ventures, Ltd., based in London, England; Wedlake, Ltd, allegedly based in Riga, Latvia; Open Space Enterprises, Inc., based in Las Vegas; Southlake Group, Inc., based in Las Vegas; WTFRC, Inc., doing business as Reflected Networks, Inc., based in Las Vegas; Dustin Hamilton; Tobin Banks; Gregory Hamilton; Philip Doroff; and Paul Rose."

Yup, thats all they want. Everyone is too greedy and wants the extra hits of people looking at their site to report them. I mean the USA even made laws saying it was ok to send adult stuff to anyone, just follow the rules. They are trying to help everyone out obviously. Don't mess up a good thing. :2 cents:

I have always said the Internext show is the cheapest and most effective way for the US government to gain info and take care of business on a low budget...everyone is under one roof....

This really blows for those that were served, their legal bills are going to be astronomical.

You don't think that being named as a defendant and having a direct association with all that is going down warrents them being "part of the hullabaloo"?

ytcracker 01-11-2005 11:17 AM

According to Piccionelli, the presence of federal agents at Internext highlights a trend he expects to see grow over the next several years as government prosecution of the adult industry increases.

?There really was not an elaborate internationally known set of shows that the adult business gathers at back in the ?70s and early ?80s,? Piccionelli said. ?At different times, when there are justice department sweeps, don?t be surprised if this becomes a mode of operation for the government in the future. They like getting everybody in one place and serving them.?

dont go to conventions

Because Donnie claimed that he was nothing more than a disgruntled employee, so Lensmen shut him down.

Hopefully Lens will see this and straighten things out. Like reopening the threads as TDF said above.

From the FTC PR. given the charges against the company, it also makes for a quick primer on the Don'ts of email soliciations:

"The complaint also charges that the defendants violated the CAN-SPAM Act by sending e-mail or procuring third parties to send e-mail that:

-contained false or misleading transmission information;

-contained deceptive subject headings;

-failed to contain functioning opt-out mechanisms or did not contain any opt-out mechanisms;

-failed to identify the e-mail as an advertisement or solicitation; and

-failed to provide the sender?s valid physical postal address. "

yes it really blows when the law catches up to scammers and criminals.

no wonder this industry is a mess. i really feel for the honest companies whose bottom line is half of what it should be due to the riff raff.

lol - so were they bothering to do ANYTHING compliant?? Although, I suppose SEXUALLY-EXPLICIT: can be a pretty tough one to spell. :winkwink:

Um, here's an idea... don't spam and terminate ANY affiliate who does! To many people turn an eye because of this " in crowd" shit.

Just my opinion. I don't care if you agree or disagree

abadfish 01-11-2005 11:26 AM

Am I the only one that thinks this is a good thing? Does anyone really like spam? (Besides spammers) and I don't think its appropriate for adult spam anyways...

Maybe not anymore, but they played a big role in the entire operation. I don't think a change in management is going to cover them here.

The business was directly associated with what was going on. They will be caught up in all this whether you think they will or not.

many sponsors have it in their TOS about a no-spamming tolerance, but some affiliates still do it.

For sponsors, be sure to check your TOS and to show you have a zero tolerance, otherwise you could be condoning the actions and be held just as liable.

Earthlink is very aggressive, going to the point of subpeonaing credit card processors for their clients info to track down spam.

Earthlink vs. John Does is the court filing against spammers:

Well...that, or the fact that the owners were on this board a few days ago calling this nothing but lies and saying that all was well in Signup4CashLand.
