So, if you advertise on GFY....

All this GEO targeting made me think. If you advertise on GFY you can team up with the GFY crew and 'personalise' your banner using either the webmaster's IP address or the cookie that GFY sets (matching the user's ID against the webmaster's nick). So every time say SmokyTheBear loads your banner, the banner will read (just an example):
"Smoky, join us and make $35.00 per signup".

I'm absolutely positive that the CTR will be mush higher. Can this be easily done? Will the banner load too slow? What do you guys think, good idea, or a brain fart?

Now that we know the trick we won't fall for it! ;)

I have no doubt that it will work well, I'm more interested in the actual implementation. Well, let's hope a PHP/script guy will give us his 2c ;)

Yes. You won't be clicking them. But that doesn't mean that everybody else will do the same.

I run a small surfer's forum and would love to have something like that in place for some banners I run on it.

Well you have their IPs just get a programmer

Antonio 01-11-2005 11:56 AM

Just a final bump before I let this thread die.

pornRefinery 01-11-2005 11:58 AM

I never noticed that there's even a banner at the top ;) too much shit going on on the board anyway

NickPapageorgio 01-11-2005 12:01 PM

With some of the guys on here with 1000 fake nicks from the same IP that thing would crash the whole board and internet and cut off the gas pumps at your local 7-11...

Phoenix 01-11-2005 12:01 PM

thats a pretty good idea

EyesWideShut 01-11-2005 12:02 PM

good thinking Antonio :thumbsup

Rui 01-11-2005 12:07 PM

Good idea, already saw something semi-similar to that but a little more "basic" somewhere else.

Antonio 01-11-2005 12:16 PM

I'm actually waiting for a programmer/PHP guy to tell me what the pros and cons might be. Alternatevly I have to start a new thread and just make sure to include the words 'tits', 'ass' and 'Britney Spears' in the title ;)

I know that the area based logo cought my attention. A name would be grand.
