Stolen Luggage Items

I had all of my zippo lighters stolen from my luggage, 3 spacash zippos, issued to specific people, and a very special zippo that Doctor T gave to me on my birthday, I am so fucking pissed off..

What do I do to get compensated by the airlines??? Anyone ever run through this before?

LOL! Man, two of them were still in the Zippo case with the orange factory seal on them, one was open to check it out, and my other zippo from DoctorT was the ONLY one with fluid in it..

It totally sucks that those fuckheads gotta rip shit off... and if not stolen, but confiscated and to not even leave a note saying they confiscated the items?? wtf..

puravida 01-09-2005 10:13 PM

Yah, it pisses me off too.

On my last flight from Houston to Costa Rica, nonstop, Houston being my originating airport, I checked 2 bags. One bag arrived, the other did not. The bag that didn't arrive had a new ipod and dig camera in it, still in the boxes (they were xmas presents). Continental's excuse? They've had a problem with luggage thefts. We were compensated $2,000 though. They said we got paid more because it was an international flight, as if that makes any sense (not gonna complain over getting more money though, lol)

Happened to a friend of mine a couple years back, someone from the airline searched his bag and he watched them take interest in a few things, he left his bag at the security checkpoint to board the flight and when he opened it up when he got home all the stuff the guy was looking at was gone. I don't think the airline did anything to compensate him. :helpme

Tom_PMs 01-09-2005 10:18 PM

Always carry keepsakes or valuables as carry on...happens way too much and the airlines won't do shit about it

Hate to say it dude, but the lighters are only allowed in your carry on baggage.

http://www.tsa.gov/public/interapp/e...table_0099.xml

NO MATCHES OR LIGHTERS OF ANY KIND ARE PERMITTED IN CHECKED BAGGAGE.

ONLY the following types of lighters (LIMIT 2) and matches (LIMIT 4 books) are allowed in CARRY-ON BAGGAGE, or ON YOUR PERSON:

The policy is fucked up in my book, make it easier for another Richard Reid wannabe to light his exploding shoes up in the cabin.

Manowar 01-10-2005 10:03 AM

i love my zippos. people who try and steal them are punishable by death

Pete-KT 01-10-2005 10:05 AM

that sucks I think there are a few items missing from my bad also

two if them had factory seals on them with ZERO fluid in them, thus qualifying them as pieces of metal inside a case.. the other lighter was opened but had no fluid in it.. the other lighter which doctorT gave me had fluid.. so I had one lighter that had actual fluid in it.. why the fuck would my bic lighters still be in the case??? These were blatantly stolen dude.. DoctorT had a ton of lighters in his bag, and his zippos made it ok as well..

This is just blatant theft...

Aerosol cans and cologne are permitted in cargo (certain toxic aerosols excepted). Lighters are not, plain and simple, whether or not they're loaded. They don't look at the the fuel type and fullness, because they're already banned in cargo. Just because someone else got away with it doesn't mean it's permissable. From the TSA, if you want to read it yourself:

http://www.tsa.gov/interweb/assetlib...12_18_2003.pdf

It sucks, but it's not theft at all, you made a mistake, and they did their job properly. It would be nice if they'd store contraband for the owner for later retrieval, but the logistics and liability involved in such an undertaking would be very costly.

Are you having a hard time reading dude?????

I had 6 fucking OTHER lighters in my luggage that made it back just fine.. 2 Sex.com lighters 4 Cybererotica Lighters.. Why are you failing to realize this was THEFT.. Why would they leave the other lighters... Jesus..

Don't give me a hard time.. Your barking up the wrong fucking tree.. You got family who works as TSA or something give me a fucking break here..

DoctorT's luggage was unscaved, nothing taken and he had just as many lighters total... Not as many zippos, but just as many lighters total..

MikeVega 01-10-2005 11:22 AM

That sucks ..it is true that your not allowed to pack zippo's but i think in this case they just snatched them .... sorry to hear that ..

macho 01-10-2005 11:23 AM

Shit happens!:(

SmokeyTheBear 01-10-2005 11:23 AM

They have this show on called AIRLINES or something. Its a reality show about airports and such .

This guy was on recently and they took away his zippo lighter that had no fluid as well. It was a family heirloom. The guy was pissed. He was like " you guys are fucking thieves, i bet you sell this shit or take it home " The girl was like " rules are rules sir " then after he left she pocketed the lighter.

Pete-KT 01-10-2005 11:25 AM

I did read your posts, and I don't think you mentioned your six other lighters before. Were they right next to the missing ones? I have no interest in defending the TSA, and I think many of their rules are ill-conceived, but you did violate their rules. I should correct myself, they certainly may have stolen them; however, confiscating them was proper regardless of what they did with them afterwards.

erehwon 01-10-2005 11:47 AM

This whole keeping your bags unlocked for the TSA is complete bullshit, as soon as the bags are away from their eyes, there are the masses of baggage handlers who you damn well know have their own little criminal operations going.

Again, it can be a pain in the ass, but if you are going to fly with checked baggage, buy and pack a small Smith & Wesson .38 and declare it when checking in. Let the TSA see it and let them lock your bag.

Fly with a Pelican 1650 case, slap on one a couple Titanium Series Master Locks, and stencil your name on the bag, I can promise you that the airline will never lose your bag. The Govt and the airlines can't afford to have news stories about missing bags containing handguns missing in their 'safe' airports.

Ok so here is the first mention of my bic lighters that were in the suitcase..

I am not trying to be a dick to you dude.. It just started to get frustrating like you were failing to realize that this was more "selective" seizure, aka theft..

Anyways.. I will be sending out a registered mail letter this week I think.. This is the second airline thats jacked me that I will not be flying on again unless they make things right somehow..

Not only was I delayed 12+ hours, I had false promises of a meal for myself and doctor T from the airline, and they were just plain rude to me while I was asking what was happening with my flights..

Then to see I had shit stolen just put me over the top.. I also think that one of my zippo mirrors might have gotten stolen.. I could have sworn that I brought 4 back, but I had 3... I did give a couple away...

Tommy behind tha Deuce 01-10-2005 12:07 PM

Let me see.

No security, attitudes, shitty service, timeless delays, lost luggage, overpriced flights, and now theives...this is just why I stopped using the airlines.

PurrrsianPussyKat 01-10-2005 12:10 PM

Reality of the airlines is that employees are taking pay cuts, giving back bennies and still being required to work as hard. They are laying off like crazy, and half of them are currently in bankruptsy. The employees have been doing far worse than stealing a few lighters.. they've been slashing tires and really lashing out. They feel they are "entitled" to take a few things here and there because of what they had to give back to stay employed.
I'm not saying it's right.. just stating the facts.

LOL! Yeah, I looked out the window in PHX and saw this big ass dude hurling bags off the cart wherever he wanted them to land.. I even saw him throw a pekikan case that was clearly labled this end up, right onto its top and handle.. I wished at that point that I turned on my camcorder.... He must have had a bad day because of the weather delays and people deciding they didnt want to come into work which caused more delays..

They pay that guy $7 an hour. He doesn't know a pekikan case from a walmart bag. He doesn't care either. All he knows is now he's paying more to go see the doctor, he has less vacation/sick time and he's making $1.50 less an hour to throw bags on a plane and hell.. next week he might not even have a job if the airline he's working for goes belly up.

Yep.. maybe the case.. sucks for sure.. but part of the reason they are going broke is from people like this who break shit, steal shit, or just plain slow shit down to the point that it causes a delay that makes a ripple effect..

Not saying its fair to pay shit to your employees.. But if you're gonna do a job, don't do it half ass.. if you don't wanna be there, then get the fuck out..

TurboAngel 01-10-2005 12:24 PM

That sucks to know they went rooting in your bag without you there, I would be soooooo mad.

Yep. I totally agree.
It's really a messed up situation behind the scenes.
You're out of place if you actually care about your job.
Years of mismanagement have brought it to the point it is now.

smut416 01-10-2005 12:29 PM

I hope you realize that if stuff is missing out of your bag, the only people that look into your bag most likely is the TSA. And NOT the specific airline. The airline most likely has nothing to do with it unless your bag is completely lost. You know, those pieces of trash they pick up off the street that are scanning your bag for weapons and bombs. I swear the TSA went to a white trash convention and hired all their employees. Those scum bags do a so called "standard" search in your bag, and while you are boarding the place, they steal your shit knowing it will never get traced back to them. Most of the TSA employees are the same kind of low lifes that stock supermarket shelves, and work at Mcdonalds full time. They are just lucky enough to not have a criminal record yet so they get hired. If you get stuff stoeln, good fucking luck getting it back or getting compensated.

DarkJedi 01-10-2005 12:32 PM

I try to carry all the expensive stuff onboard with me (not in luggade).
Had some things stolen on american airlines.
