Tower or rackmount? brand name of equipment?

MGibson 01-09-2005 01:04 PM

Heh you can go to http://www.newegg.com and build one for cheaper then that.

Hell the p4 2.4 gig cpu is only around $200 there, the hard drive is about $100

Not too good of a deal when you really look at the cost of the items in it.

of course mister professor. propably for you it takes a cpu and a hard drive to build a server, but for others there are ram, motherboard and other computer parts to build a server.

you are so smart, you propably own a data centre or something

MGibson 01-09-2005 01:08 PM

P4 2.8

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...116-180&depa=0

$173

120 Gig hd (Hitachi too DAMN GOOD DRIVE) $80

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...145-047&depa=0

1U case WITH power supply $125
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...127-037&depa=0

And any mother board for less then $150. Still no where near worth $1,000

1 Gig of ram, theres 4 ram slots onboard, so you wouldnt just buy 1 gig of ram, most likely you used 4 sticks of 256 ram to cut down on costs so....

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...211-005&depa=1

$33 per stick X 4 = $142

So I know you dont have any raid on it, its only 120 gig hd, so theres no raid controller...

1000 can = 800 usd

i bet you would never be able to build for the same price

or go get a same 2.8 dell for 1200 usd lol

Magg 01-09-2005 01:18 PM

Maybe if you did $500 USD I'd be interested, Brand new those specs are $650 for a supermicro setup through our distrib.

What speed are the HD's? 7200RPM 8MB cache?

Rackmount? 1U? What brand chassis?

What motherboards? What hard drive brand? Are they homebuilt or built by a server retailer? (IE: how big of a risk is overheating, and/or malfunctions from faulty installs)

HorseShit 01-09-2005 01:19 PM

1,000.00 Cad = 811.622 Usd

spamofon 01-09-2005 01:26 PM

ok fine then, i ll leave them for myself, to keep hitting ur inboxes bitches :1orglaugh

MGibson 01-09-2005 01:31 PM

See heres the thing, you know what you paid for the servers, and others here know what they can pay for the servers, youve heard it from 3 people in this thread.

Its not worth it.
