Im not fat or anything, 6'0 165, but I seriously need to get in shape

whats the best way of doing so?
Do those products such as '6 second abs' really work? what excercises should i be doing?

sickkittens 01-06-2005 10:00 PM

165? Damn dood - you're a lightweight. Normal weight for 6'0 is about 180 to 185.

Spunky 01-06-2005 10:01 PM

Jog a couple miles every day...drink lots of water and just eat healthy

Ironhorse 01-06-2005 10:03 PM

You will need to put on some weight if you expect any muscle mass.

brizzad 01-06-2005 10:13 PM

Are you joking? He said get in shape.. not lose weight. The first thing you need to do is decide if you are ready to become dedicated to you health. You have to be mentally ready otherwise you will do it half assed. Eat a lot of food because 6'0 160 lbs is underweight IMO! Set goals and stick to em! My advice to you...

Lift weights heavy 3-4 times a week and eat the following daily:

3k-4k calories
100-150 grams of carbs
100-150 grams of protien
And drink at least 1 gallon of water... water helps break up your food so drink a lot after your meals!

im 6ft 160 and very good shape....that is definately not underweight...maybe under average but not underweight...i tried to gain weight eating like 5 meals a day with lots of protein....didnt work....really depends on your metabolism and how your body digests food etc. everyone is different so youll have to try different things and see what works best for you

Bigwilly 01-06-2005 10:44 PM

im beggin you dont take anyones advice here, if you want health advice your asking the wrong people. Ive seen some peoples advice posted on this forum that can actually be dangerous, tellin people to not drink too much water ect i dont want to get into it. Take a few hours and read through the forums at bodybuilding.com if your relatively smart you can figure it out. Its no more harder than learning how to make a TGP

Vitasoy 01-06-2005 10:47 PM

Lipo is the fastest way. I think...

Bigwilly 01-06-2005 10:47 PM

6' 160 is underweight or no muscle mass, get a bodyfat calipars, for example i am 6' and weigh 210 with 13% bodyfat. You should judge your progress based on bodyfat and weight. Thats all the advice your gettin from me, check out that site, its up to you now.

how is that underweight? i work out 3 days a week at least and have quite a bit of muscle mass....

L0stMind 01-06-2005 10:52 PM

Skinnyguy.net for you.

6' and 160lbs? god damn. I'm mildly jealous cuz I'd love to have your genetics but if you want to gain some mass, follow Anthony's plan. It's well laid, simple and effective.

My advice is not dangerous... why do i suspect you are out of shape?

L0stMind 01-06-2005 10:54 PM

Try to think of it not as "getting in shape" but a change in lifestyle. Because thats the only way it's gonna happen. It really takes dedication imo to "get in shape".

my 3 step system:

1. jerk off constantly until you dehydrate and faint.
2. measure weight once regained consciousness
3. repeat step 1 and step 2 until desired weight is achieved

gaining mass and gaining muscle are totally different. i gain quite a bit of muscle without adding much mass. i can honestly say ive went from benching 135 to benching 215. not only in my chest but strength has increased significantly elsewhere and ive gained very little weight...maybe 5-7 pounds

L0stMind 01-06-2005 11:05 PM

wedouglas - gaining strength and gaining mass are totally different :)

I've lost 30 lbs (208 - 178) but managed to bring my bench from a measly 90lbs @ 6 reps to 200 @ 6 reps in the same time period (sept 04 till now) :)

Anyways, yes. Perhaps I shoulda said "if you want to gain some lean body mass (ie - MUSCLE) then follow Anthony's program"

and strength comes from the building of muscle....

robfantasy 01-06-2005 11:15 PM

i drink 8oz protein shake 1 1/2 hours before i work out, then i drink a sugar free redbull 30 minutes before i work out.

i run 30 minutes

work on a specific muscle group each day for 1 hr

swim for 20 minutes

with energy left over

then i drink a met-rx protein plus 51g protein RTD shake

EVERYDAY

wedouglas 01-06-2005 11:15 PM

well anway, im gonna leave this thread but whatever you do, make sure you have variation. do heavy weights for a while and then light weights at higher reps. start using a bar and switch to dumbbells after a few weeks and keep a routine of variation. for trimming down though, lower weight with higher reps would work best. good luck

Yah, so LEAN body mass is gained. At the expense of fat. I bet while your bench strength was climbing you lost body fat and gained muscle.

Anyways, what are we arguing about? Same thing sounds like to me.

Hire a personal trainer for a few sessions to set you up or if you want hire one to work you out once a week. You'll be introduced to new work outs and taught how to work yourself out. It'll be worth the money because it'll save you time.

join a gym
lots of protein
fewer fat
..there you go..

took me about 6 month to get in great shape

Paco, of Large Cash. 01-07-2005 10:10 AM

Ensure you do something physical everyday for at the very least 2-hours a day (yoga or pilates)
Watch your caloric intake while dropping as much fat as possible. Ingest less food while eating more frequently.

I believe a person should include physical active into each day: more strenuous = less time, light activities = more time.

I do not frequent the gym as there is no need for me - I only work 8 & 1/2 hours a day, while playing very hard for 3-4 every night/evening. Skating, skinny skiing, kite-skating/skiing and etc ...
Weekends I tend to push it even harder - skinning or hiking 20 to 40 km up a mountain, thousand+ lunges each day with a 30-60lbs backpack.

In addition, going to the gym to me is like going to the regular clubs, as well I am active for different reasons, none of which are for aesthetics.

Generally speaking, No.

Having "noticable" abs is like 90% diet. You have to have low enough bodyfat to really notice them.
