Anyone ever did a study on who buys porn.
 

Like age group, ethnicity, blah blah. Basic demographics.

I know it really ecompasses everything, but im sure there are predominant areas that can be used to target specific groups.

Everybody everywhere in all forms and walks of life you just have to have what that person likes at that point in time but I would say mostly noobs that dont know to much about the internet buy porn and the people that stay a memeber for a site are the advance user's that relly like the content of the site and cant find it anywhere else. :2 cents:

Agree! Internet porn is no different to "across the counter" porn sales, - tho maybe more discrete - and comprise a cross-section of society from all walks of life - the local pastor, celebs, blah... tho there "appears" to be a predominent age group between 18 and 40 ish.

Any real analysis is hard since the likelyhood of getting the truth is remote :-)

Saying that everybody purchases porn, therefore market research isnt necessary is ridiculous. Everybody purchases food yet millions are spent on researching who is buying what and why. Knowing why your surfer is buying a membership and why he is keeping that membership is crucial to the longevity of your business. Also if you know who is your microtarget customer you can focus your ad dollars to that group thus maximizing your ROI.

I do agree that it is more difficult with adult to get honest answers than with mainstream but it is possible. If you think that Vivid doesnt do market research you're nuts.

asking who buys porn isn't the right kind of question... you need to ask who buys the kind of porn that you are selling.

I do a lot of research and i target my advertising well, because i will get more sales that way.

It doesn't matter what your age, race, sex, or religious beliefs are - everyone buys (or at least looks at) porn. Why do you think this industry is so successful??
