Microsoft's AntiSpyware Tool

For those of you that have downloaded and run the tool, how many spyware instances did you catch? I have always prided myself on keeping my network and machines secure. I have never had a virus. I have never had spyware or adware (or so I thought). This new tool has found 2 "threats" and 6 files infected and it's not even done yet.

Is this tool just being too picky or do I actually have spyware?

xclusive 01-06-2005 01:05 PM

It's probably just recognizing itself as spyware lol

LOL that was funny but serioudly let us know how many are legit problems. I heard that M$ is working hard at making their search better than Google after google got all the press you know how M$ hates that. I would like to see how this is doing.

How many of those are cookies?

None. It doesn't seem to count cookies as potential threats like most spyware tools (which is good, cookies are pretty harmless).

pornstar2pac 01-06-2005 01:19 PM

WebTV doesn't have spyware

cool

sumphatpimp 01-06-2005 01:55 PM

so why don't you post the names of the files this tool called spyware?
:thumbsup

Lycanthrope 01-06-2005 02:17 PM

Wow, picked up shit that XCleaner and SpySweeper didn't, most importantly, orphaned registry entries. Good shit.

feN 01-06-2005 02:22 PM

i think it's kinda ironic that microsoft releases an anti spyware tool ..

Should have been included long ago, along with anti-virus software... a lot of problems would go away, but then there wouldn't be a market for those types of software..

Spunky 01-06-2005 02:47 PM

Running it now, and nothing yet...I already run my other antispyware programs on a daily basis and it usually gets about 30 - 50 everyday

Theo 01-06-2005 02:48 PM

i always run adware/spybot but this one found a lot of things and my IE seems faster now :)

Nysus 01-06-2005 02:54 PM

If you have a non pirated version of Windows, then choose validated, if you have a "borrowed" version of Windows, go for non-validated.
In the near future, Microsoft will start going after those who have pirate version of their software by locking them out, this is just a taste of what's coming :2 cents:

On December 16, 2004, Microsoft announced its acquisition of GIANT Company Software.

Spud 01-06-2005 03:00 PM

Sweet! best thread of the day :) my pc is running better now too. only had three but seems better now... :thumbsup

tgpmakers 01-06-2005 03:04 PM

LOL i'm glad there realeasing it for free it's a shame there not charging really because they'de get seriously flamed for that. It's like a security patch for the operating system. I'm just glad I don't use it anymore.

They bought Giant software last month.

woj 01-06-2005 04:28 PM

It's kinda sad that microsoft puts companies out of business, Giant Software probably cashed in big on this, but 10 other companies that sell similar products will be hurting badly...

Decadawn 01-06-2005 05:09 PM

It found 6 on mine!..
now it's doing a deep scan and if found a keylogger...... :|

I hope the people that write this shit die a slow miserable death ... fuckers!

Spunky 01-06-2005 09:58 PM

Well it did find one instance at least...I just ran another program right as a test and it found 15....I guess you get what you pay for

galleryseek 01-06-2005 10:04 PM

great piece of software.

sumphatpimp 01-06-2005 10:15 PM

I installed and ran on 2 xp machines and didn't find shit.
I am going to let it run for a few days see what else it does.
Seems to have a bit of a firewall, which is good. :thumbsup

Koodles to Microsoft for choosing to integrate one of the best anti-spyware / adware programs available...Giant Software's product.

I see a down-swing in advertising for 12Clicks and Standard Internet. With most of their advertisers relying on the adware concept...this is going to make a lot of their advertiser's adware infested products pretty much useless. Oh well, no tears shed on this end.

yep exactly... they paid to put their name on another companies product. We were using Giant at the office before and Microsoft went and paid them to put their money on Giants product...

Shoplifter 01-07-2005 12:13 AM

I used it initially in the fast mode and it didn't find anything, but in a deep scan it found quite a bit. Nice program.

Chris 01-07-2005 12:25 AM

cought 15 that the rest didnt

hahaha, I missed you in Vegas, surfer. still can't scape together the cash to go, eh?
no surprize. With the stories you invent about me I can just imagine how much of the rest of your life is a mental invention.

GatorB 01-07-2005 01:13 PM

I jst ran it and the fre version of adaware on a friend computer. Ad Aware caught 473 "threats" or whatever. Microsoft over 4000. So I'd say Micorsoft's is better. So far I like it.

Fucksakes 01-07-2005 01:17 PM

found 6 on my machine that 2 other programs didnt
