I'm off to the south of france (les Arcs) tomorrow snowboarding :thumbsup . Anyone here out there, going or been?? i've been checking the snow reports and its looking abit warm right now so hoping its going to snow very soon.

i know theres a few people here who snowboard/ski. i should think most people here board/ski in the usa but is there anyone who goes to europe ?

i'm hoping to get my 360's busted down good this year so i dont look like a freak twisting through the air and landing on my face :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh anyone got any tips ?

I'm also looking forward to the hot ass chicks you get out there in the bars :winkwink:

I used to snowboard but gave it up for Skiboarding. I own mountains on these things. so much more fun than Snowboarding IMO. But snowboarding still rules. :thumbsup

where in UK are you Kiana ?? just curious.

yeah they do look cool. i've never tried them but they look like fun. i've seen people on the slopes on them and they always seem to look really scetchy and all over the place. arn't they more for tricks than cruizin ? and i take it there is no way you can go off piste with them ?

To save starting a new thread - anyone use Flows and if so what do you think about them? For a couple of reasons I'm thinking of getting some. At the moment though it's a toss-up between Flow bindings and the new Burtons with the toe strap that goes right across the tip of the boot.

i just bought the new burton missions. they have the new toe strap. im gonna test them out on this holiday but i've tried them just sorting my board out and they feel sweeeeeeet. i rode flows last year and found it really hard to get my feet into when i was off piste. they are very comfy though. i guess its personal preference.

are skiboards harder/easyer then snowboarding?

I've gotta say that skiboards are so much easier then boarding. Just sold my snowboard this year because I love skiboarding so much but there's 2 problems

1) I look like Joe 90
2) I'm generally crap at all sorts

I am really not into flow binding system, found them much harder to use and quite uncomfy. I'm currently into anything Salomon, love their stuff.....plus they have boots called Kiana, lol!

i know it must be fun, but no way in hell im going to risk a broken leg for a few hours fun

I never had a problem with a broken leg - but I wrecked my coccyx and it's still painful after 2 years of having to work sitting on a cushion :/

You probably risk more by getting in your car everyday. :2 cents: (assuming you get in a car) :winkwink:

I've been skiing and boarding a few times in New Hampshire at the smaller resorts, great conditions, especially for learning!

It's comfort I'm going for. Being a bit of a fat bastard the 'normal' toe strap causes pain across the top of the foot - sometimes bad pain. Different boots etc etc help little as does loosening the toe strap. I'm figuring flows or the new burtons will help stop this as there's no strap pressure on that part of the foot.

The main worry is loosing response as I've heard people complain that flows can cause that for them.

And then others like kiana say they're not comfy either :(

I'm taking my boots to the shop to try both but it's tough to get a true feel for them until you use them on the mountain.

what parts don't ??

i know people with the exact same problem as you and they have had a hell of a time trying to sort it. if you find a way let me know :)

Have you tried K2's stuff? Most of it is designed for the 'larger' person be it tall, fat, etc.

I used to snowboard a bit, its really fun. Have a blast dude!

We just drive down to Ikea or the Bay with our doors locked

LOL, that place sucks any atmosphere that place might have right up into that stupidly high ceiling

too true, its stupidly high. theres many better pubs/bars around so i dont go there anymore. only went there to work. then quit cause its shit :1orglaugh

They do some great boards especially for people with big feet and yep - work well for taller/heavier people too.

However, with their bindings, whilst they fit well where size is concerned again that part of the foot has problems.

I'm probably going for the burtons I think although I'll decide for sure in the shop. I'll post how I get on with them for those who know people with the same prob.

Btw - K2 now do a binding that's a cross between a flow and a regular strap system. It looks like it may work well. No help for my problem though :(

While you are out there, you should try telemarkin/freeheelin ... more popular in Europe - and what a fricken work out. Not for lazy people that's for sure.

The grey-tray is not bad, but I'll save that for when I retire and my knees are shot from :banana

I have used the FLow Carbon Pro the last 3 seasons. They are great, if you have adjusted them right, if not - they hurt even more than regular strap bindings.

In Flows you are attached to the board like you have glued it to your feet - that gives you really control, but if they are too tight then it fucking hurts like hell.

It usually takes at least 1 full day to adjust them that they are tight but not hurting. Also I have Salomon Malamute boots which can be tied really tight and that caused also sometimes problems with the flows, since the binding has to be constantly adjusted depending how you are tying your shoes that day.

However, I was last week in Val Thorens (2300 meters high resort) and bought the Burton P1 Carbon toe strap bindings and they are AWESOME - even more control and no ! absolutely no hurting ... never ... gone ... with the Salomons they are the perfect combination. Tried everything, offpist, freestyle ... no problem.
Loving it ... going next saturday to Austria for a week

Must be a British thing - aside from length, what makes my skis any different from the blades (now known as boards)?
The waist on one-pair of my skis is 105cm (no, not joking) ... if anything the Gotamas are boards!

How about mini-skis ... petite-planks ... or even baby-boards.

Have to say I'd never heard them called skiboards before either and I live in the UK. Everyone I know usually calls them blades.

I sincerely apologize if my comment offended, it was not intended - I was somewhat referring to how we title or name things differently from one another (hood & bonnet).

No offence taken - just thought I'd mention that the term was new to me too. It makes me wonder where it is heavily used. :)

Saving it for when I retire ... if you are a masochist such as I, you should try 'freeheelin' or telemarking (not marketing).

Yeah I've always said blades too.

Tipsy, dont know where in the UK you live but I recommend you go to a Snow and Rock to look at bindings, if you get a good sales assistant, it is really worth it. ( A few of my family members used to work at the shops)

We were in Ellis Brigham's snowboard center today (snowboard asylum) and chatting with a VERY helpful girl. Probably going back there for the bindings as it's more local and I'll also be getting some custom moulded foot beds from them. As I say the biggest prob is simply that trying them properly really does need a long mountain run. The Burtons look the way to go though :)
