I had the Czech shit that's illegal here. The only thing missing was that the devil himself came to eat my liver or some shit. It was definitely wild.

I like the spanish brands. Expensive to have it brought into the US though.

No real stories with it I guess. It's not all that, but I do feel a sort of cleaner feeling when i'm drunk on it. Regular vodka or the like just clouds your head. Absinthe didn't seem to do that to me.

Ive only had the absente which lacks the toxic trippy properties of absinthe. Ive contemplated ordering the real thing since i have no clue how to find it stateside.

yeah, that's what i heard. that feeling can be very addicting..

interesting. I heard everything from, "it's like shrooms!" to, "nothing happens". It's not like drugs at all, it's basically just liqour. It does make you feel a little bit different though, but only a tiny amount.

IMO, it's expensive to try, and i'm betting a lot of you won't like it. At first, it's overpoweringly licorice flavored. Once you try a few brands (I liked the spanish more than the french, the french stuff was simple, and tasted greasy and salty).

Anyway, those I listed above are all good. They have several herbs which are interesting, and create a multi layered taste.

No, wormwood (tuhjohn, however you spell it) is a banned food. you can buy and import absinthe into the US, but only as a collecters item.

Shame on you if you drink it. But even if you do, it's not covered on any drug law, it's a banned food, not drug.

Edit: wormwood is a poison, which is why it's a banned food here. of course, alcohol is a poision itself, so whatever.

Absinthe was invented as a tonic by the Swiss back in the day. Think it was the french who ended up liking it, and making it into a popular pub drink back in the day.

Drugs do not kill people - Darwin takes care of the idiots. As for the rest, god takes care of his pets/god-fearing herd while over-looking things such as myself.

If anyone is interested in trying it, I will mention I still oddly haven't tried La' Fee, which is french. It's supposed to be one of the best Absinthes you can get.

If you do try and order it, look for the lower percentage of alcohol, not the higher. You are looking for higher levels of Wormwood, and lower levels of alcohol.

Remember: Fresh ice-cold H20, sugar cubes and a deep soupspoon.

From the fine spirits corner? No. It took forever for the bottles to arrive, and shipping is damn expensive. I've ordered from them 3 times, and each time things went fine.

I ordered 5 different bottles at the same time, since they cut shipping costs a bit. If anything I could have sold the extra bottles, but instead I just sampled and eventually drank them all. :)

I just had some last night. The Czech stuff is the shit and it is banned in most states. Anything that lists wormwood as an ingredient is the good stuff.

Mari mayans is the ultra bright green absinthe, but it has no wormwood, and is simple.

For a party drink kind of thing, it's cool, just because the vibrant green color, and the louche is amazing. They also sell single bottles on their own website, and it's not too expensive. but it isn't truly absinthe without it.

Yeah, part of the fun is setting everything up. It's like the heorin of alcohol, since there is a sort of ritual behind it.

Most people dilute it with 10:1 water, which I found made it way too weak. My mixes were 1:1, with very little sugar.

Yeah, years ago NiN's the perfect drug video came out, where I saw it for the first time. Back in like 1999, when Maxim was still cool, they wrote an article on it. After that, I was sold.

How can you possibly get drunk on this stuff? We brought some home from the Czech Republic and Bulgaria last year and it tastes so nasty I can't imagine ever being able to swallow enough to get drunk!

My buddy just got into trouble last month for trying to bring some of that shit and some seeds back from Amsterdam to the states. US customs got him and confiscated everything and gave him a nice $500 fine.
I never tried the stuff myself, though.

Well, I let most of my friends try it, but they all hated it. Only one girl I know liked it.

So IMO, expect not to like the taste too much. It took me a little while, but after I got used to that licorice (anise) taste, I started tasting everything else, and started enjoying it.
