"Tirado registered the domain name shortly after the disaster and she listed it on eBay herself, with a minimum bid of $99.99. But she withdrew the listing Dec. 27 without any bids. She told the Post she had a change of heart about profiting from the domain name as the death toll began to climb. She said she was contacted by Kaplan, who told her since he would be using the site to help victims, he would not be able to pay her for it.
"

she also tried to sell it...
but it doesn't really matter who tried. the point is do you think it's right to profit in such way or not?

axelcat 01-05-2005 12:05 PM

its wrong to profit on tragedy

Paraskass 01-05-2005 12:06 PM

"His listing on eBay said that he planned to donate any proceeds from a sale to help victims of the Dec. 26 tsunami that is now estimated to have killed more than 150,000."

I think its OK. I'm sure the CEO of red cross isn't taking the bus to work and nobody complains. I just dont know if I would actually do it or not, it is pretty bad karma. :Oh crap

Thank god the guy who tried to sell for the 50K wasn't from the US. We would be hearing bitching about this for the next 5 years... :2 cents:

Trying to profit from tragedies is despicable. :BangBang: :ak47:

TheMob 01-05-2005 12:37 PM

do you know how many people sold american flags after september 11th, or how many "we remember..." items were sold?

if something can make money, people will sell it, its as simple as that

digi 01-05-2005 03:13 PM

Red Cross

flashfire 01-05-2005 04:22 PM

some people will do anything for money, kinda sad

slapass 01-05-2005 04:32 PM

I must be a pig as I would sell it. 50k seems steep but it would be a good domain for a charity with lots of direct traffic. They would get $$ to help the victims and I would get cash to buy hookers and dope or whatever...

:winkwink:

nofx 01-05-2005 04:40 PM

its not wrong on all

Hey You . . . I Know You! 01-05-2005 05:19 PM

Profit from tragedy?

I once stopped on the highway when I saw an exceedingly bad single car accident.

When I approached the car, I noticed that the driver was still semi-conscious. His legs were both severely broken and he was bleeding a lot. Once I got his attention, I offered to call an ambulance for him - but I told him it would cost him $250.

He said he didn?t have it on him, so I got back in my car and drove away.

Was that wrong?

r3ap3r 01-05-2005 05:27 PM

People have been profiting from tragedy for ages. Its wrong but it happens.

Horny Dude 01-05-2005 06:06 PM

biz is biz! Store owners do it every time there is a tragedy by raising the prices on water and batteries. It sucks but heh do what you got to do!
