What do you think of disaster tourists?

I just saw some on CNN yesterday. They went to the places where the waves hit. Some went even surfing. They say they just want to get an own impression of what has happened.

I don't know.. Sounds quite unfair for the victims when people come just to see their pain instead of helping....

it's bad, but not that bad

DWB 01-05-2005 12:55 PM

How long is a place supposed to stand still? The faster things get back to normal the better for everyone.

With that said, I do think that if they have time to surf and lay in the sun, they should at least help with something if they can. Or maybe they did and they were taking a break... Who's to say?

FelixFlow 01-05-2005 01:31 PM

where the hell are they staying? i thought millions are homeless & in need of shelter how is there room for new tourists ?

There's always food and rooms for people with money :(

tranza 01-05-2005 01:45 PM

What about people that had already bought their tickets in advance?

You don't think such tourists exists??

AdultNex 01-05-2005 02:42 PM

I heard that the Red Light District re-opened in Thailand and were serving tourists.

Additionally, I read in the WSJ that people were tanning on the beaches while the devastation behind them was being cleaned up by aid workers.

stev0 01-05-2005 02:46 PM

Their economy needs the help... even if they're not making donations they're still helping by supporting the local hotels/business's.

I fully agree, Mr.Martin is scum!

Cyndalie 01-05-2005 03:20 PM

Alot of people have pre paid for their trips, expecially europeans. These countries are tourism dependant, perhaps many people feel if they don't go they are hurting the victims - by holding back damages the already hurting economy. News says like 70% of hotels were unaffected. Then again, I wouldn't want to go swimming in that water and would fear disease.

jt420 01-05-2005 03:47 PM

i cant really see why you would want to be there unless you were involved with aid but hey it helps the economy get back to normal so i guess more power to them.

flashfire 01-05-2005 03:48 PM

if you have the money to get there you have the money to help...and if you have the energy to surf well....you know the rest

r3ap3r 01-05-2005 03:52 PM

I think people are curious about how it looks down there. I myself want to see how it looks over there.

If there is one thing you can count on in Thailand, it's pussy.
:thumbsup

Honorable mentions in no order: Temples, rice, odd smells, stray dogs, heat, humidity, more rice, great massages, bad music, Buddha and The King.

Spunky 01-05-2005 10:40 PM

I was watching the news and people went there to help all the people anyway they could...I guess some people already had plans but people are flocking there to help them also
