Wow.. thanks for posting that, Dan.

That was entertaining AND gave me a good insight on how these indian people
seem to deal with Americans. Great stuff Dan.

I have had bad experiences with Indian programmers. I am sure there are great ones out there but we have had some negative experiences.

i've had fairly good experiences - i've never done anything large scale though because of the language thing - they speak English well but they don't get the nuances and slang plus most aren't all that familiar with the adult biz so then you have to explain to them what this and that means - not worth the extra hassle - i find it hard enough to explain what I want to American programmers.

Elance does have a good rating and review system - if you see like 20 positive reviews on a company on Elance I think you can be pretty sure you're going to have a good experience.

indian copy/paste warriors?

our battle elefants ready, maharaja....

Its really funny reading your posts about this cos I actually manage a lot (around 20) indian programmers and I have given some out to GFY people in the past. I always wondered how americans and GFY people generally would handle it.

I am actually Indian myself (British born) but even I still sometimes get annoyed with the politeness thing. Its just as irritating when you call the bank and youre on the phone to some Indian call centre.

Its just that as Indian's we're always brought up to give maximum respect to our seniors and elders. Being based in a western country adds to that. Also most Indians are tought formal ie letter writing English as opposed to the informal usage in the states or the in UK.

The biggest problem ive had so far is that they tend not to read your instructions the first time around - this pisses me off no end.

Overall though, these guys are superb. They work hard, they will make sure youre happy, they dont complain much and they treat you like royalty. There's also a huge culture of bargaining for things in India so you can expect them to ask for more dough sooner or later. That said, you can get some extremely talented php scripters for like as little as 150 Rupees per hour (which is like $3.50). Not bad going....

So do you publicly post all your private chats? Even those with whom you work?

I really don't think you have to be worried about getting short-changed on rudeness - with your approach to confidentiality, I have no doubt that your future will not be overly burdened with courtesy.

:warning database updated...

I'm so very very sorry and I truly sincerely hope I did not hurt your feelings.

Can we have a group hug now? :upsidedow

what kind of douchebag are you, garden variety or extreme ?

the programmer has no clue GFY even exists, the possibility that he would ever find it is infintesimal.

now let's say you are with a group of friends and some funny little story recently happened in your life, and it involved some person in your life that none of your friends know or never will know, let's say a repairman who came to your house - and you recount the story telling your friends what the stranger said, and then what you said, and so on and so on ............
