Designers - Tip O' The Day
I know most of you use Google image search, Corbis, Getty etc for stock photos - and we know that mainstream stock photo prices are ridiculous for adult web design work. you can join a site like Hemera and pay a monthly subscription fee for access to a pretty good large library of stock photos/illustrations. I had a membership but gave it up cuz I wasn't doing enough design work to justify the expense.
well a few weeks ago I found a great stock photo site, http://www.istockphoto.com - a bunch of people I know already know about it but i thought I'd give a head's up to those of you who aren't aware of it. The prices are extremely cheap, you don't need to spend 30 or 40 bucks a month on a membership, need a photo of a box of crayons? a pair of socks? you can download one of many for 50 cents to a buck depending on resolution. I haven't searched for anything without at least getting one good photo. http://www.istockphoto.com |
Very helpful thank you

Yeah I have been using them for about a year now but the prices are going up or have already gone up. I got an email from them a couple weeks ago saying to buy credits now at the reduced price. Even with the raised prises the site still rocks and the images are super cheap and great quality. :thumbsup

Thank you Mutt. :thumbsup

i have used istock for a while now, awesome site for sure. :thumbsup

Ahh cool.. a friend of mine will be happy to hear about that site :)

Damn, thats like one of the best secrets. :helpme

why keep it a secret? i'm always for the grunt workers in this business with skills just trying to make an honest decent living without screwing other webmasters or surfers - designers, programmers, photographers, writers. so if i have a tip i share it with them. i help content people who compete with me all the time. if somebody isn't going to be a customer of mine I might as well help somebody else.

Or people can contact me for a custom photo or specialty photo:)

well you have a bit of a point but there's enough variety on that site so not everybody would use the same photos. it's already pretty easy to track down where most photos come from. i found the GFY lady in her original form years ago. When I saw her on GFY i knew I had seen her before but couldn't place where - then one day i remembered the name of the stock image CD she comes from.

I love the credit system and have an account there as well. :thumbsup

yup, i know that one, it's great cuz it's free, not as good as istock or hemera though but a good place to take a first look. :thumbsup

also, you could head over to www.clipart.com (no it isn't just a bunch of cartooney clipart)
for a really low price you can get access to a shitload of great stock photography. You can just get a 1 week subscription and then spend as much time as possible pilfering as many images as you can |
Good tip. Thanks!
