TheMob 01-03-2005 02:05 PM

tranza 01-03-2005 02:05 PM

It isn't even animated for me...

Magg 01-03-2005 04:45 PM

Me either, when I click it if I remember right it takes me to the surfer version or some shit trying to get me to signup for adult personals

flashfire 01-03-2005 05:36 PM

Well considering its trying to sell me a membership to their adult personals, I dont think its going to do much else but generate talk.

dasexi1 01-03-2005 06:42 PM

that shit is especially funny when you're in a little hick town called Goose Creek

Goose Creek Webmasters :1orglaugh like there is a whole gang of webmasters hanging out in Goose Creek SC

pxxx 01-03-2005 06:45 PM

I saw it two days ago - it was 50 km off.......

Tuga 01-03-2005 07:04 PM

triumph 01-03-2005 07:16 PM

geo ip targeting is about 80% accurate, nevertheless a great marketing tool.

sickkittens 01-03-2005 07:20 PM

geoIP marketing works well, but does it really have any effect on webmasters?

a post was started about it! it works! I predict others will follow!

Verbal 01-03-2005 07:25 PM

"Bradenton Beach" Webmasters?? I'm in Tampa. You'd think it would at least get the big cities right. Bradenton Beach is about an hour North of here and not that well known.

The difference is webmasters, IMO, don't get the same effect as a surfer does. Surfers expect to see things (girls) in their city. I didn't expect to see a site that had anything to do w/ my city. :2 cents:

Most webmasters will notice a big banner saying their city (Example if it actually got your city right)...Your gonna be like...What the fuck and click it...

Its in your face advertising and it works...I'm sure out of all the banners they got the most clicks for the month...

Its a perfect move on their part...They just need to work on the database ALOT...

seems like no one has a geo ad that actually shows chicago as chicago.

Every one i have seen give me small ass cities 10-40 miles from me.

Do you know where your ISP's datacenter is?

Dalai lama 01-03-2005 07:38 PM

It says '' Amsterdam Webmasters.. '' not even animated :2 cents:

It's definitely not an exact science, but they do the best they can. Hell, one of the methods used is pulling possible airport codes from router hostnames that show up as hops in the traceroute.

Good question. I guess my point it that 2 million + people in the Tampa Bay Area are missed with this kind of advertisement. Not sure how many other major cities have the same problem, but I would imagine its more than one.

Domain_King 01-03-2005 08:08 PM

GEOIP stuff has made me a lot of money

Not necessarily. My database puts me in a small city 3 hours up north, whereas it nails my buddy who is a 10 minute walk up the street. Larger ISPs like to shuffle their IP blocks around when they need to expand somewhere.

Domain_King 01-03-2005 08:37 PM

Got my city right on
