Would you fly in a private plane to Vegas...

in this bad weather.
You know most plane wrecks are due to bad weather.

hydro 01-03-2005 02:14 AM

sure, sometimes if you travel with multiple people a private jet is cheaper than 1rst class would be :thumbsup

Still safer than making that drive.

Pornwolf 01-03-2005 02:15 AM

A better question is would you drive a Lambroghini to Vegas in this bad weather? I think it's equally dangerous.

I would. When it's your time, it's your time.

One of my best friends is a pilot for a company that has a bunch of King Airs.
I just hate flying in bad weather. He usually flys us everyone and its ok. Its just the weather I am tripping out on but I trust him. Just don't trust the planes.

Yes, I would take the Lambo but no room for staff and lugage.

That is true, but I don't want to miss the show.

Pornwolf 01-03-2005 02:21 AM

I am the same way. I never get on smaller jets and cropduster reigional flights in bad weather. The way they get bumped around in the slightest bit of weather makes you feel like the hand of God is playing with the cockpit and bouncing you around.

Scary stuff man.

RyuLion 01-03-2005 02:37 AM

I would!!!

Illicit 01-03-2005 02:38 AM

you talking jet or a little prop job ?

KRL 01-03-2005 02:47 AM

A Gulfstream V has a service ceiling at 51,000 ft so you'll be way above commercial traffic and most of the bad weather. The only thing you have to worry about is takeoff and the ascent if your departing city is nasty also and going down into the bad weather for the landing. King Airs I think have a service ceiling of 31,000 ft, so you're farther down the ladder.

In real bad weather I'd feel safer going commercial. 21% of fatal aviation accidents that are non-commercial flights are due to bad weather, so that's about 1 out 5 chances.

Maybe the pilot would be killed and you'd survive?

What if you got into a car wreck and were killed while on the way to Vegas? You'd stll miss the show.

sean416 01-03-2005 04:25 AM

I would... I doubt I'd turn down the chance of flying in a private jet due to weather.

erehwon 01-03-2005 06:58 AM

I would go in a private jet over commerical any day!

There has been many a commerical flight where I'd swear the pilot looked more hungover than me, and he's got the lives of 100+ people on board.

At least flying private you have a little more time to size up your pilot than just poking your head in for a minute and finding your seat.

xclusive 01-03-2005 07:09 AM

Go for it man i'm sure you will be fine

LeeNoga 01-03-2005 07:26 AM

Oprah flies in a private plane, may she be your role model :-)

Most plane crashes are do to pilot error, no matter if it's bad weather or not.
So if you are going to fly with someone else make sure you know your life is in their hands.

Sad part is I am co-pilot. I just don't land it but I do alright flying in good weather. I have to see out the window to keep it level. He flys just by the instruments.

Semi-Retired-Dave 01-03-2005 03:01 PM

This is what it looks like.
I fly in it all the time.

Especially with general aviation... I would say 9/10 are pilot error... usually in bad weather because the pilot is flying in conditions that he/she shouldn't be without the proper ratings... thats just my guess though. I have no idea what the actual figures are.

I agree.

My friend flys for a living, he has already gone back and forth to vegas this morning and flys everywhere.

But I agree, I think its like 90 Pilot errors.

When its your time, its your time.
