I can pick up a ticket at the airport for about $2200, but I thought maybe there was a website with good last minute deals.

Japan is just one of those places where good deals are hard to find. I hate to say it but that $1700 ticket might be he best one you come across. :(

The problem is he wants to fly as soon as possible... if he stayed a few days he could probably shave $1k off that $1700 ticket... I routinely fly from Providence, RI to the Philippines for $1400 round trip. With a stop in Japan.

nah it's not really about money right now. If I have to pay 2k to leave, i'll do it.

It's $1300 cheaper to leave on the 5th instead of the 4th, so it makes sense to leave on the 5th
