PHOTOSHOP QUESTION...Using an Action to Crop IMAGES...
I am trying to create an action to crop out 150X150 images but it keeps making a tiny image in the top left corner of a 150x150 white box. I need to know how to do the crop when I am recording the action. I would like it to crop somewhat centered.
Appreciate any advice THX- :thumbsup |
I do 2 actions to do that.
First action resizes the smallest side to the size I am aiming for (your case 150), then have it place the crop "box"(150x150) on the pic. From there I manually move the crop "box" to my desired position. Second action is just a crop and save then close the pic. This is the only way I have found to get a crop that I want from each pic. kind of a pain but worth it. |

yeah that's the same thing i do. Set smaller side to dimensions then douplicate layer and then change canvas size to final dimensions. stop recording then manually center the cropping. |
I don't think it's possible to set an action to auto crop. You may want to look and see if a plugin does it though.

what a pain in the ass...can't seem to get it to work

NEXT QUESTION......when I do a resize action on pics from two different cameras, it only works on the ones from the same camera as the original pic used during recording.
anyone know why? |
did you get the cropping to work?
|
not really, just doing it one by one right now-

you can, problem is it will crop that same area on every pic, so sometimes that doesn't work so well |
there really is no solution to this - if u want great thumbs u need to hand crop each one - or take a good look at the set and divide them up into groups where a common crop position looks good.
it's why i would never use any CMS that does the creation of thumbnails automagically - u wind up with shitty looking thumbs. |
Arles is pretty good - u can set it up to auto crop but it allows you to move the crop to a better position on a pic by pic basis for those pics u can see are gonna be bad, like a head chopped off.

First set the constraints to 150
File>Automate>Fit Image Then resize the canvas to the center anchor at 150 Image>Canvas Size You will then have all your images exactly 150x150 - only problem is that if the chick is off to one of the 4 sides your crop may look iffy - but this will work for most images and sounds to me like what you are looking for. |
thanks man, sounds like it should work--appreciate the help :thumbsup
