California's New Tanning Salon Law

You have to be over 14 to go to a tanning salon or get a doctor's prescription if under.

WTF? Any other strange laws going into effect where you live?

Riding a horse over any public highway for the purpose of racing, or testing the speed of the horse.

sickkittens 01-01-2005 06:37 PM

And another one...It is considered an offense to throw pickle juice on a trolley.

BSleazy 01-01-2005 06:37 PM

You have to be 16 in Michigan

Trixie Racer 01-01-2005 06:37 PM

I thought it was 18 and up..? If not, it should be! Tanning is bad and minors should be protected.

MandyBlake 01-01-2005 06:38 PM

that's interesting.
not sure if its good or bad though.

sean416 01-01-2005 06:42 PM

is there a possible reason that a doctor would prescribe someone under 14 to get a tan?

KRL 01-01-2005 06:43 PM

New law In Missouri, if you are convicted of any felony crime you have to submit your DNA record into a state database.

Tanning *is* bad. I choose to tan..but I am an adult and have the right to make that decision. Certain things should be for adults only (smoking, drinking, going to war, sex on film) and I believe using tanning booths which are MUCH WORSE than the sun should also be on that list. . :2 cents:

misty_dayz 01-01-2005 06:45 PM

Well...I personally think that anyone under 16 should at least have a parents note to go to a tanning salon. Most at 14 years old have no idea how much they can be exposed to without burning

OK, this is a really bizarre tax law in Tennessee for people that sell narcotics.

The new drug seller tax would be collected in two ways:

? Drug dealers can go to any of the state revenue offices within 48 hours of coming into possession of unauthorized substances. They pay the tax and get a ''stamp'' to put on the drugs showing they have paid up. They would not be required to give their name, address, Social Security number or other identifying information. State tax collectors would be constrained by taxpayer privacy laws from reporting them to police. Still, state officials say voluntary payment is unlikely to happen often.

? The most probable way the tax will be collected is when police make drug busts. Law enforcement agencies are required to call tax officials within 48 hours detailing the drugs found.

Tax collectors then assess the tax on the drug suspects, as well as additional fines for not paying the tax in the first place. If the suspects cannot make immediate payment, the state seizes and sells any assets, such as cars, homes and personal belongings, to pay off the liability.

Paying the tax does not immunize a drug dealer from criminal prosecution, nor does nonpayment result in harsher jail sentences or fines, other than a tax penalty. Typical tax penalties are 5% of the unpaid tax liability.

I guess it's kinda like letting kids smoke. They're not really old enough to appreciate the harm they are doing to their body. Studies have shown it basically doubles the chance that you'll get skin cancer. Sad that it has to be put into law instead of parents just using common sense and keeping their kids out of them.

A tan is skin damage.

Here are two of my favorite "Blue Laws" (old oblosete laws that have not been removed from the books and are therefore still laws).

1- It is illegal to peel an orange in a California hotel room.

2- In Memphis TN a woman can only drive a car if a man walks in front of the car carrying a lantern.

Note: I read these in a magazine 10 years ago, they may be off the books by now.

like 8 years ago they changed a law in S.C. that stated you could beat your wife if you were married over 5 years and as long as you did it on the court house steps on sunday.

Why would a 14 year old walk into a tanning salon and want a tan. They are only 14. Mom, can you drop me off at the taning salon while you do your shopping, pick me up in 30 minutes. I should start this year in school with a tan.

makes no sense.

Morgan 01-01-2005 11:08 PM

Everyone's using spray tans now anyhow and I dont think there is an age law for that since it's supposed to actually be healthy.

takes 45 seconds, my GF goes...
