Canada donates $40M, wipes out $1B in debt, and its citizens raise an additional 20M
I cant remember the last i felt so proud to be Canadian...Actually, i can but this pretty good shit too.
WTG Canada! Too bad we have an emergency disaster response team which is unable to respond to any emergency disaster because of its size! WTG D.A.R.T. |
That is something to be proud of indeed. $1 billion ain't nothing. :thumbsup

|
Good job, too bad they are raising interest rates :( :( :(
|
ya.. started a thread showing. that.. wait until you get the bush lovers attacking you
|
That's they way it should be done congrats on raising so much.
|
Damn, thats pretty impressive :)
|
Nice canada! if you compare that to America with $35M (after the united nations complained about the 'small amount' of $15M America intended to give in the first place) ... wow :thumbsup
ps. Americans dont feel offended, you can't help it, it's your president (however.. 50+% voted for him) :( |
Go Canada :)
The public donations here in the UK are also pretty amazing, which is think must have contributed to the govt. increasing it's pledge to $95m. Yesterday the public figure was $48m, this morning it was $60m, and the latest figure i'm reading is $85m. All the big charities over here have formed a single group to jointly raise money, and it seems to be working. I know it's not a big-dick competition, but it does make you feel proud that your country and its people are reacting like this. I just hope the money can be actioned into aid with such vigor. |
Canada Rules :)
|
1b$ sure is a big dick. :upsidedow
|
lost of ppl with big hearts here in the great white north!!! :)
|
Very nice from Canada! :thumbsup
|
excellent, does anyone have any links to articles about this?

WOOT! I saw that last night. We rock! :thumbsup

THEY DID NOT WIPE OUT THE 1 BILLON DEBT. CANADA SUSPENDED THE PAYMENTS FOR AN UNKNOWN PERIOD OF TIME AND IT WILL STAY IN EFFECT FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE.
That's still going to help them. But don't expect any country to forgive 1 billion dollars. You guys are living in a dream world :winkwink: http://www.canoe.ca/NewsStand/Winnip...02920-sun.html "The moratorium, to stay in effect for the foreseeable future, will suspend payments on nearly $1 billion in debt owed by tsunami-hit countries" |
Either way it's a great gesture but does anybody really think the US won't end up being the biggest help over there? I agree that the initial 15mil was a joke but we always give more to the rest of the world than anybody else. With that said great job my northern Slightly "Special" brothers...

The big freindly nation comes through for the rest of the world again 'eh? Canda daoes have a VERY impressive track record of aid and humanitarian missions.
Wasn't the only G3 nation to visit Sudan and ask the world for help and pledge help the Candian Prime Minister? No one else cares I guess. |
