An atm machine stole my epass card read this shit

Okay so i go to this atm all the time to withdraw from my epass account (always worked fine). Today the machine took the card gave me money like normal but would not give me back my card. I go isnide tell the people they reply with
" If our machines eat your card we can not give them back to you unless it is a card from our bank. The machine will know it is not our card and destory it "

WTF IS THAT SHIT ? The funny thing to all this was i was withdrawing the max i can from my epass accont to give to that god damn bank as i have an account with them!!!!

So i am left epass cardless with a decent amount of cash on it. I call epassporte and they are helpful as always. They put me in que to get a new card here but it is gonna cost me 35$ ( maybe 15 as i have an affilate account and they are cheaper ) and will take min 7 days to get me a new card.

blah oh well - didnt need to spend the cash anyways

Magg 12-30-2004 11:22 PM

damn that sucks

Alex 12-30-2004 11:24 PM

WiredGuy 12-30-2004 11:26 PM

abadfish 12-30-2004 11:29 PM

That's fucked up.. I'd raise hell with the bank... no atm should destroy a credit card for any reason. If anything make them pay the fee that epass is charging!

misty_dayz 12-30-2004 11:29 PM

OMG that is awful! I went to a machine not too long ago and withdrew the max I am allowed to withdraw per day. So....the machine is looking good...sounding good...you can hear it counting the money....then counts it again...and again...and again.

Then it basically says "Thanks, have a nice day". Uhm....where is the money? I heard lots of counting, but didn't see any money". The people where the machine was gave me one of those blank stares as if I was from another planet. Ends up the machine had the money withdrawn from my account, but didn't have enough cash in it to give me, so it didn't give me any and it took 3 days for the machines to all agree.

So, everything is clear, I go to a bank and try this again. Guess what? Damn machine breaks down mid transaction and eats my damn card. Luckily the bank staff was able to go inside the machine and rip that sucker from its clutches and give it back to me. Sometimes those machines make me paranoid.

WebTitan 12-30-2004 11:30 PM

thats bullshit, i have had ATMS grab my card before an always got them bank, insist on talking to the manager, you probably got some one who did not know how to open the machine or just did not want to

after i got done with epassporte getting my new card and all .. I thought about that

billing them for the new card .....ill even say shit like it caused late fee's on bills as it made me late returning a movie that was due back before 4 :winkwink:

pushpills 12-30-2004 11:32 PM

Smear peanut butter all over your chest, and approach the bank teller again.

jt420 12-30-2004 11:32 PM

man so is that load of crap about the machine eating your card if its not from their bank just a terrible ploy for you to get a card with them so you can feel comfortable losing it on their shitty ass machines?

not SUPER worried - i have other ways to get money and i usally just use my epassporte account to pay my smaller bills like cable - phone - internet as i can do that all online

All's well .. i just feel naked with an epassporte card

psyko514 12-30-2004 11:36 PM

The machine doesn't destroy the card. That's bullshit.

Most likely, the reason they won't give it back is because they can't reliably confirm that the card does indeed belong to you.

Also, bank employees rarely have access to the ATM machine, and for good reason.

xclusive 12-30-2004 11:37 PM

Just go in there when it's their businest time and tell the manager that if they don't give you the money for the epass card you are going to make a scene and takke all your money from that bank. Bet that will make them change their tune as banks don't like drama...

rowan 12-30-2004 11:42 PM

I know it's not going to help much now, but see if you can find mini-ATMs that don't draw in the card automatically - either you swipe it, or stick it in a slot and remove it immediately. Those machines cannot eat your card if anything goes wrong!

I am gonna do that from now on ... but those machines normaly only let you take out small amounts at a time like a 100 or so

buzzard 12-30-2004 11:44 PM

where are you finding those old school ATM's?
only use machines where you simply swipe your card

"the machine destroyed your card" is a lot harder to argue with than "we can't give it back to you".

like i said, they can't reliably confirm the card is yours. since they have no access to epassporte's client database, they can't even confirm if the card is legit, let alone if it's really yours.

lol i have a pretty unique last name and first name - plus i can even log into my epass account and shows all the numbers and everything

proving the card is mine is not a big issue
what pissed me off was the fact they claim the machine destorys the card if it is not a card from that bank

SmokeyTheBear 12-31-2004 12:00 AM

You should have asked the bank manager to look at the back of his own bank card, then once he pulled it out, grab it and break it in half, then say , sorry when i see bank cards that arent mine i destroy them.

Better yet punch him in the nose and say " sorry i break noses if i dont know them "

dude, you're not understanding the word "reliably".

none of that stuff confirms 100% that the card is indeed yours.

i worked at a bank for close to three years. i'm not just pulling this stuff out of my ass.

they told you the card was destroyed because there's nothing you can do in that case. you'd be surprised how many people won't accept "we can't open the machine" as an answer, even if it's the truth.

Vitasoy 12-31-2004 12:13 AM

Damn that sucks, hopefully that never happens to me.

Sosa 12-31-2004 12:16 AM

My bank called me today questioning 5 transactions in the last 24 hours all of them to CCBill and Paycom. When I contacted CCBill, they told me that whoever used my cc info had all my info, not just the card number, but used one of my email address names with @aol.com after it instead of that it actually is (that way I didn't get the signup emails). CCBill was able to give me an originating IP (and it's not mine). Had to cancel my debit card (I live by that card) and now wait for a new one.

Essentially...somewhere that I've purchased something online using that combination of debit card and email address has had their database broken into.

Icing on the cake...whoever did it used the card to buy time on a couple of Adult video chat sites....

if they only knew whose card they charged it to.

OMG now that is scary. Wow... makes sense why people are getting more and more paranoid about giving their credit card and/or personal info out for online purchases, especially to adult sites. Look at what can happen... and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Luckily your situation was caught in time... but worse case scenarios, it could escalate to identity theft etc. And these things are not easy to straighten out. :Oh crap

KRL 12-31-2004 01:35 AM

Be sure to count the money you get out of ATM's. Most people don't. I took out $400 one time and the machine made the noise on the last 2 bills but nothing came out. I counted and sure enough it only gave me 18 $20's totalling $360.00 and shorted me $40. My receipt said $400 withdrawn.

I complained to the manager the following day and they credited me the $40.

Magg 12-31-2004 01:36 AM

A couple weeks ago, my card was stolen and used to signup on Adult Friend Finder, lol

Man all they have to do is go in the door behind the atm machine in the bank and pull out the card. It still sucks ass though regardless. One can grow dependent on an ATM card very easily.

Screaming 12-31-2004 02:11 PM

yeah that whole destroy it thing is fucked up, they could have said then they restock it we can check on that for you, shesh

JupZChris,
Next time you talk to him, ask him if he's ever worked one of those machines ;)
They can go in to pick up the card anytime as long as they have the alarm company advised - the only thing they can open only once a day is the vault/safe where the money is & this for obvious reasons.

sickkittens 12-31-2004 02:16 PM

That sucks. I'm still waiting for a company to release a couple transactions that were cancelled. The orders were cancelled but I still can't get the money from ePass!?!?ePass says they can't do anything about it.

Classic!

This is why I use those machines in 7-11's where you just swipe the card.

r3ap3r 12-31-2004 02:20 PM

Take it from a person who works on the inside. The ATM does not "destroy" the card, it deactivates the PIN number so it renders the card useless. My suggestions is raise hell and ask for compensation from the Bank.

LOL!! I want to see that in a comic strip now. Who's a cartoonist?

yuvalus 12-31-2004 03:44 PM

A friend of mine works on bank machines for NCR. Bank machines do not and can not destroy your card for any reason ever. They have a card reject bin inside the machine where all cards go if they are either forgotten or could not be returned. The reject bin is emptied when the tellers remove the nights deposits from the machine. In some cases a security company handles that aspect instead. Your card will bew returned to the issueing bank and then returned to you or destroyed if you have reported the card lost.

Forkbeard 01-01-2005 09:53 AM

Yeah. There's no such thing as an ATM machine that destroys cards. However, most banks will only return an ATM card to its issuing bank. Epassporte *will* be getting your card back in the mail; it sucks that they are going to charge you to issue a new one, instead of simply mailing your old one back to you. I love the service those guys provide, but they sure are rough around the edges sometimes.

As for me, I try real hard these days not to ever put a piece of plastic into the old-style "eat your card" machines. Swipe machines are everywhere and it's not hard to find one with a $300 limit or better.
