How many of these tsunami victims do you think donated to the 9-11 fund
I wonder.

I'm guessing that not many. It doesn't make it any less of a good cause to donate to the tsunami victims.

Probably not, because they're poor.

At times like these I wonder what lessons you learned growing up. When I was growing up I was told you do good things because it is the right thing to do, not because you expected something in return.
You help people not because they helped you, but because it is kindness towards fellow human beings is what makes this world a better place. Helping those that can not help themselves ends up helping the giver far more than the receiver. Did the thousands upons thousands that are dead contribute to 911? Probably very few if any. Does that make the need any less? Does that make them any less human? Did the people of 911 go without? As far as I know, the surviving families of 911 received a good deal of money and assistance. The U.S. was able to help its own, however, donations did not just come from the U.S. The victims of 911 received donations from all over the world. This world will never become a better place as long as people in this world think as you do. The old "I won't give you anything unless you give me something first". Or the "What is in it for me". I give to needy children around the world. I do not expect those children to give anything back to me. It is the giving that does me the good and makes me a better person. It teaches me compassion. Lets hope that one day you are not in need and when you reach out for help everyone around you says "oh, I'm sorry, but did you ever do anything for ME?" Hopefully they will say "How can I help you, tell me what I can do" |

Then whats the point of your original post? |

It would be obvious to anyone that these people are too poor to even help themselves (let alone help the richest country in the world). |

I understand your points on both sides of this topic...but for me personally, I am a very predictable donor....I only give to charities that support Children.....I dont give to the homeless or the disabled (not because they are not good charities it is just my choice).....I give to charities that support Children. When I saw the videos of those two little boys floating down the beach my heart just bled :(

None of them donated to the US. The people in the US have everything. The streets are paved in gold. Dont you know that?
But if you have a few extra dimes, send it over there, and help the people whos streets are oaved with bodies. |

I give because a few dollars of our money can make a huge difference and feed a family over there. I just think it's the human thing to do. I just hope that they appretiate the help that we give.

This thread makes me sick.
3,000 people died in NY. By the time the count is over, 200,000 will have died from the tsunami. Most of which were probably living at poverty level. Who GIVES A FUCK how many even gave a SHIT what happened in NY. We do what we do out of the kindness of our hearts with no expectations of getting a PENNY in return. |
