"Tell a friend" scripts - worth it?
 

Anyone use a "Tell a friend" script on your site? Do any surfers actually do it? Any chance of getting accused of spamming - even though the message "comes" from whomever submitted the address?

Interesting question I don't think there is anything wrong with it actually since you didn't initate it

I have never experienced any problems with that kind of script, but then I have never seen that big a return on them.. With my traffic it is probably 1 in 2000 that send one and then 1 in 100 of the recipients that actually come to my sites..
thats just my experience..

i've never used any of those, if i want to tell friends about a site, i just email the link to them.

It is very worth it. It's just a snippet of code you can put in your Php sripts for replication so the one time effort is definitely outweighed by the recurring traffic opportunities :)

I have one on a humor site and it's used like crazy, but that's also because they're sharing pics. I thought about using one on a tgp, but porn is relatively private, so I don't know how well it would work.

i think it will work if you have something special on your site that is worth telling a friend about, but since buddies share info about porn sites they visit?

I don't think it really works but what the hell.. it's not taking up alot of space anyway so try it out.
