Do you have firewire?
Am I the only one who has a built in firewire connection on my computer? How does everyone else get their digital video into their computer?
Osmosis.

VHS. That's not quite the same as Digital Video. But I guess if your shooting your stuff analog........
Oldschool USB baby! May take a while, but what am I going to do with my day anyway?!?!?

Digital video cameras don't have USB connections.
you can't capture minidv with usb. firewire only due to speed required). we use a minidv deck to capture digital video.
A mini DV deck will play the tape but what is the connection on your computer?
firewire. all minidv decks have firewire. it also allows you to capture various analong sources and convert to digital.
minidv decks are built for playback/capture. doing that with your camera will wear it out over time if you capture lots of minidv. this is the main reason we use one over a camera. |
Ya I realize that. But in talking to people over the last week no one seemed to have a firewire connection on their computer and I was wonder how they got the footage into it. I'm talking about the computer end of it not the camera or in your case the stand alone player. ( Man, I would love to have Sony's stand alone mini DV player )
I use a G4 powerbook to capture and edit. Firewire port in the back.

That's the answer I was looking for. Are you selling DVD's yet? http://www.apple.com/powermac/dvd.html

i also use the 1394 with DV deck to make clips, but i bought the computer mainly for that purpose. i have also noticed that only the high end computers are set up that way. maybe thats why not many people have it?
Oh ok, I see. Only high end PC's have firewire. That's what it is. Mac has had firewire as standard on all their computers for the last 2 1/2 years now.
you can also use a video capture card, with standard RCA imputs that will hook to any camcorder or VCR
sure. but who deals with analog anymore. if you are shooting for the web, digital is by far the best format to work with. canon xl1 shoots amazing video.
have no idea about MAC's but i know you have to spend the cash for a PC to have it. but that seems to be changing. i remember 3 years ago i payed $3,200 for a computer P2 450 with firewire and digital video software. bought a new athlon 1.2G about 10 months ago for $1,500 came with firwire but no software for video.

lots of webmasters that just go rent video tapes from the local porn store to make video clips from them. haha |
Ya, but I was thinking more along the lines of
1) shooting a porn video 2) import and edit 3) burn DVD's as orders came in. 4) sell them for 80 bucks a pop. I can't believe no one is doing this yet. [This message has been edited by Freeway (edited 10-22-2001).] |
i have been for 3 years. lol
