Do you have tattoos?
 

I just got my first bit of ink almost 2 weeks ago (1/4 sleeve) and was wondering what some of you have used and found the best for ointment or lotion for care during the healing process. I have read so much conflicting information online I thought I would ask a few of you who may have a lot of tats and what you have found to be the best.

I have been told everything from normal ointment to Lubriderm to Visine to Preparation H. What have you found that results in the best color? I have been using some sort of ointment I got in Bangkok but I don't read Thai so I don't know exactly what it is, but it is what was recommended by the artist. I'm happy with my results, just curious what else is successfully being used because I am going to be out of this shit tomorrow.

For the first few days I use A&D Ointment then switch to Tattoo Goo or a non-scented lotion like lubriderm or curel.

just lots of lotion scent free lubriderm after 36 hours or so when the tattoo is dry

I'm uploading a pic of my last one, which I got 5 years ago. I used a lotion with no dyes, fragrances or anything like that to put on it while it was healing..nothing else. And the color is pretty good still, considering I always have my hair up when I go outside, so the sun beats on it. The black needs to be re-done, but the colors are still vibrant. I would like to get it updated soon though.

The only thing to worry about is keeping it clean and not let it get crispy dry.

Have no tats but stay away from preparation H. :upsidedow

LMAO, Prep H is good for imflammation from close encounters with Nair, though...found that out the hard way when I tried to Nair my underarms. Owie!

A&D Ointment and let it breathe as much as possible to keep the color.

How long was it before you could shave over it?

Give it a couple weeks to fully heal even a month if you could, I have one on my arm and i waited about 4 weeks before i shaved it to be safe.

No tattoos for me. My mother told me to imagine how a tattoo would look once the skin started sagging with age. Grossed me out so much that I don't dare get one.
