StuartD 12-29-2004 03:19 PM

bjjb 12-29-2004 03:19 PM

My stats say around 79% IE

feN 12-29-2004 03:20 PM

IE >90%

Firefox is getting popular though..

tyler86ed 12-29-2004 03:20 PM

IE has 90% of the market.

nick3131 12-29-2004 03:20 PM

Firefox is gaining ground fast. Last i heard it was IE circa 80% and Firefox circa 19%

New surfer's have IE then when they get spyware or someone tell's them to switch they switch to Firefox/Mozilla. If I was building a site I would build it for both along with netscape make sure your site work's in those 3 browsers along with diffent size screen's.

GatorB 12-29-2004 03:23 PM

Yeah I misspelled YOUR. Now bite me.

That data is wholefully inaccurate. Not only does it not show where that browser information is extracted from, but Firefox definitely does not have a 20% marketing share. Maybe in a few years it may, but not now.

emthree 12-29-2004 03:24 PM

Surfers build their own browsers now, didnt you guys know?

You must have some fairly smart surfers. The average surfer doesn't even know what Firefox is, let alone know that Firefox isn't as prone to spyware/adware as IE is.

Remember, webmasters =/= surfers.

Ok party true.I mean I still sue IE because it's habit adn FireFOX seems to loads page about 2-3 slower for me, but I am aware it an option. I try putting FireFox on for friends and family and they say stuff like "what's that for". I have friends that had an old HP( 533 MHz ) and 128 MB ram and he got broadband from his cable company and of course when he started up his computer it took forever. Mainly because he had 100 things running in his start-up tray and he asked me "I thought this internet was supposed to be faster" I told him he wasn't even on the internet yet.

I swear people buy computers and don't know shit and don't bother to learn. and then wonder why they have spyware and viruses. They go and buy these $500 computers from Wal-mart with 256K of RAM and wonder why it runs slow. Hell when I got a computer in 2000 I hadn't used one since I used a friends Comadore 64 in 1991. Well you know what, I fucking taught myself how the damed thing worked. What I couldn't figure out I went to wal-mart and saw a book called "The complete idiot's guide to Windows 98" and said "yep that's me" and bought it.

polish_aristocrat 12-29-2004 03:40 PM

IE will stay the top browser for years.
There is no real reason to use anything different for most people.

GatorB 12-29-2004 04:00 PM

One thing I hate about anti-IE people is they continue to say IE doesn't block pop-ups which isn't true, it does. I mean if you're going to put forth an opinion you might as well be truthful in your facts. Also in January MS is beta testing anti-spyware software they will be providing for free for IE.

yuvalus 12-29-2004 04:14 PM

I'm hoping that something, anything, will give IE a run for it's money. Firefox is pretty damn good and I will not switch back.

Question. If Firefox gains say 50%+ of the market what will Microsoft unleash to combat it? Perhaps a properly functioning version of IE?
