Trials - a good idea?

I have had 52 signups to my sponsor in 6 days, but most of them trials. On a 50% partnership that does not earn me much. Do you think if there had been no trial just full memberships that would have earned me more money from the fewer webmasters who signed up? Any experience with this?

Yas 10-21-2001 02:36 AM

Damn,
I didn't know that webmaster buy memberships too http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/wink.gif

Anyway in my own experience - it depends very much on the sponsor - if their site is good those you will have a lot of signups even if no trial is offered or good % of from trial to regular membership, if their site sucks then those trials are not worth shit

I think the site is above average, but the surfers look like they leach the content in 3 days and move on. Plus I think the my custom tour is what sells the sites more, so they would buy even if there was no trial. Of course, it would cut by around 60-70% but still the profit would be more. Any sponsor does that from you - remove the trial option for your surfers exclusively somehow?

P.S. Did I say webmasters? Ahahahhaha!

Hmmmmm... leach the whole content of a paysite in the tiral period - now that's what I call jerking off http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/biggrin.gif

Have you entered the members area of the site you are advertising?
When using a partnership program, I always signup for the sites I'm going to advertise and see what's inside. If I see a lot of upsells inside or a lot of that "premium member" bulshit I know that not many surfers will stay as members, cos I know I wouldn't

Well...

I have only ever seen 1 partnership program that converts just as well (if not better) without trials. That is Drunkslut, and I found that it rocked when they changed the price down and took trials away from the signup page.

It is pretty hard to say with other sponsors... It depends on what the sponsor is and how niche it is.

I am aginst the trial big time. 29.95 for 2 months should be min.

Lightspeed does very well even though they only offer the trials in the exit window. I make a lot of full membership sales and I think that for about every 2-3 memberships I also sell an exit trial.

That sounds like a good idea. Offer a full membership, but if he leaves, show a trial popup.

Our experience drunkslut shows you MAKE a hell of alot more without the trial... http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/smile.gif

ask ur sponsor to make a special link for u without a trial popping out a trial one in a console. it's not that hard and if u making 50+ sales in 6 days ur sponsor is more likely to help u... // it can be better for 'em, that's partnership, right http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/wink.gif

If you have a good site with unique and constantly updated content, trials can bring people in to discover the wonders of belonging. If you have a site with static content that is just average or worse, of course you'll lose the trials. The whole point of the trial is to PROVE that a full membership is justified. Of course, even with a great site, you'll probably only keep a small percentage of the trial members, but all it takes is a small percentage over time to add up eventually to a pretty big membership base.

Well my experience says it's all about human psychology.

When they sign for trial, they keep these three days in their minds trying to get as much content as they can and leave for another trial and another paysite.

I believe niche sites with unique content and constant updates shoudn not have a trial membership unless and untill they are really expensive. Everything up to 29.95 is ok without trials.

So i'm with Wizzo, without trials good paysite makes much more money.

It's very difficult to go without trials in mainstream though, it's already standard there.
