How to patent your idea?
 

Can somebody point me in the right direction somebody that has done this before I dont trust some of these company I found it google any help thanks?

What I did was go to the USPTO at www.uspto.gov and applied for a provisional patent as a "Small Entity" status, since it was only around $80 and afforded me a year of limited protection from the date of filing to file a full patent if the idea I had fleshed out. Your application when you file a provisional/limited patent is not judged on its merits at all but at least you have the legal protection that it is on file and patent-pending status until you are ready to commit the $10K or more to file the full patent with an attorney.

Ok so I do this then I find some investors then if they like I pay the 10k and then I get the ball rolling?

That's the idea. However, you only have 1 year from the time you filed the provisional application to file a full one or else you lose all protection.

And bear in mind that a US patent is only good in the US, Canadian patent only in Canada etc. If you are talking to someone about your idea get them to sign a non-disclosure agreement first other wise they may steal your idea, patent and produce it in another country before you do etc. And the second most important thing is to not use the online patent companies as most of them are rip offs.

The secure way to do it is to email me the idea and deposit 5,000 dollars in to my Nigerian bank account.
