Hey fuckers...who likes Crawdads? (pics)

About a week ago we flew in 50 pounds of crawdads live and fresh from Louisianna. So, you cook them live....then tear them in half, peel the skin off the tail and eat the tail. Then you SUCK the brain out of the head. All that for such a small piece of meat!

Well, I've never had crawfish before, but they sure looked good. Maybe I've been missing out on something. I don't know how easy they would be to find in San Diego though....

back growing up in Texas when it rained we'd hit the creeks and pull up a bunch with bacon on the end of a string..and my stepbrother's grandmother would fry them up and we'd eat them.

We'd also make them fight each other etc...LOL...good ol' redneck time.s :glugglug

I used to go down to the little river in my home town in western Pennsylvania and catch them after they shed the hard shell (they would hide under rocks) then we used them for bait to catch largemouth bass.
They were easily the best bait. Lots of work to catch them though.
We had to sneak up on them at night, lift up a rock and quickly grab them.
Ah, the good old days of youth.

Poor mans lobster

hova 12-28-2004 06:44 AM

Just buy lobster, and I'll take the chick

plyndrty 12-28-2004 06:54 AM

My father lives in New Orleans and brings them down to Florida once a year. It's good eating even for a little bit of meat. I guess thats way you need 50 to 100 pounds of them.

I still have some frozen in the deep freezer from the last time he came down. Think I just might heat those babys up.

I love lobster, but crawdads rule!!! I get to Nawlins at least 3 times a year to get them and have them flown up to NJ for most of my barbq's during the summer. They are alot of work, but thats most of the fun of eating them

Mr. Mike 12-28-2004 07:14 AM

Lobster tail only. Craw is like diging into a huge roach. Sick.

DrewKole 12-28-2004 08:43 AM

Me and a few friends go every couple of months, into the local rivers, and don our scuba gear for an hour or 2, and come back with 30+ lbs of crawfish.

Pretty fun stuff... blind em with your flashlight, snatch em and throw em in your dive bag.

Those suckers get big down here tho, we've caught a few that were 7-11 inchs... =O

jawanda 12-28-2004 08:52 AM

Caught them in Lake Tahoe as a kid ...

The easiest catch ever. Drop your string with bacon on it in the water, pull it up 2 minutes later with at least 3 - 5 crawdads.

I remember cooking up 3 buckets of them, probably at least a few hundred, and it was barely an appetizer for 4 people lol ... but deeelicious.

MandyBlake 12-28-2004 09:08 AM

Never had them before.
They look like they would taste good, but I'm not into skinning and disemboweling my food ya know?
If someone did it for me, I'd try them. :)

RevSand 12-28-2004 09:28 AM

Thats some of the best shit when spiced up right...

wdsguy 12-28-2004 10:54 AM

Heh, here they are something reasonably cheap to set out at a party. When I leave my street I can turn one of 2 directions and have crawfish within 5 minutes, two bucks a pound or less usually.:glugglug

AdultNex 12-28-2004 01:20 PM

I can't stand crawfish... I guess it's an acquired taste.

I can eat almost every type of seafood (even raw fish), but not crawfish.

It's cheap stuff, so I guess you get what you pay for.
