So the tsunami hit 900km/h...

Never thought a storm could almost breach the sound barrier. That's quite amazing!

xclusive 12-27-2004 04:14 AM

wow scary the pure power of it...

MrJackMeHoff 12-27-2004 04:26 AM

Ok where you hear this bS?

Mefo 12-27-2004 04:29 AM

900km/h ? damn if that's true, that's fucking amazing

dodger21 12-27-2004 04:29 AM

lol it didn't HIT at 900km/h. It travels around 900km/h out in the middle of the ocean where the ocean floor is miles underneath. Once it nears the shore and begins to rise, it DRASTICALLY slows down.

It's not bullshit.
Both Discovery Channel has been running programs about this and CNN reported it as well.

2) The 500km/h speed is on the ocean FLOOR on OPEN SEA.

3) The speed drops dramatically once it hits shallower water, and the wave then builds up.

This of course does not make it any less dangerous, but just wanted to point this out so everyone understood.

It really works just like the tsunami you see in Deep Impact. Just a (little) smaller. 14m (which the highest ones were as far as I know) is still extremely high of course. And these waves do not just get 14m high and come russing to you, they start small, so you do not notice them and then they hit shallower water, pull all the water away from the shore and build up to 14m in a matter of seconds, and then just hit the shore.

I said hit 900km/h - not hit AT 900km/h meaning that 900 was its top speed.

I'm just saying it's incredible a storm (ie a natural event) can reach those speeds.

Vitasoy 12-27-2004 05:18 AM

I can't imagine what it would sound like. And what the people are thinking when it breaks through the town :party-smi

reynold 12-29-2004 02:26 AM

Scary!!!

Pornwolf 12-29-2004 02:54 AM

It doesn't matter if it was 900kmh or 90kmh it's all too damn fast!

That's nothing, winds on Neptune hit 2,400 km/h :drinkup

adamneve 12-29-2004 03:07 AM

imagine riding a wave like this

shermo 12-29-2004 03:10 AM

The power of this natural force is amazing. I feel for those affected.
