tgp galleries -> should pics open as just pics or .html?

i notice most tgp galleries have their pics open up as just the pic, not in an html page. why is this?

wouldn't it make more sense to open up each pic in an html page with a banner or 2?

That's (one of the reasons) why TGP2 was invented. Regular TGP's won't accept thumbs that link to HTML pages.

Hi HQ, I was wondering the same thing when I started getting into TGP gallery posting the other day.

I guess the chances for consoles opening or dedirects happening are much less with only one html file. If there were more html files the webmaster of the tgp site would have to go through each one and check them for dialers, pop ups etc....

That would be my limited knowledge answer anyways!

Drinkinghard,

well, while you may have limited knowledge, you hit the nail squarely on the head.

back in the day it was an accepted practice to have thumbs open to an html page with ads above and below the pic, until people started messing with the gallery after it was posted

one of the reasons TGP2 will eventually crash and burn, . . . too many dishonest webmasters out there

Hahaha - not all TGP2 galleries have pics that open to HTML pages, but it is an accepted practice since the whole thing was devised to give better conversion ratios and make more money. There are plenty of reasons why TGP2 might crash and burn, but I don't think that's one of them.

so it's not allowed then, on the most popular TGPs?

so basically if i'm looking to make the most money with my galleries (posting to the maximum amount of TGPs that i can), i have to link to images, not html.

alright thx fellow GFY'ers.

SleazyDream 10-17-2001 10:19 PM

My free site (similar to TGPs) has the galleries lead to pics that are on HTML pages. http://www.sleazydream.com/main.html

I find the clickthrough isn't nearly as good as the gallery itself, and the galleries arn't even close to what the main page does. With the same traffic on each??? Weird. But enough to warrent doing it. Actually I mostly do it to increase the total clicks I send to my pre-paid sponsers.
I think the reason most tgps dont' take submissions with HTML pages is that people tend to go overboard with ads more often than not.

HQ 10-17-2001 10:47 PM

thx SleazyDream,

that's exactly what i want to do too. i won't go overboard on the ads. maybe a banner at the top and bottom, and nothing more.

but i don't want to do it if i won't get listed. that defeats the purporse obviously.

SleazyDream 10-17-2001 10:49 PM

I'm only able to do it on my own site. No one else (with enough traffic worth posting to) that I know of allows it.

They dont allow linking to html pages with images simply because they want to get as many bookmarkers as possible and advertising decreases the amount of bookmarkers. That's why there are rules like 2 links to sponsors maximum etc.

Mika,

Such wisdom, you must have run hundreds of TGPs/MGPs in tour extensive Internet career.

What I found pretty funny, was that I was talking about this thread to a lady friend last night, and I know that over the last 4 years that I have associated with her, that she is often bored with some of the details of this biz, but she was around when I made galleries with mouse-overs that immediately brought you to another location page, and many of the other tricks of the trade that I used to use. anyway, when I mentioned the original question, about thumbs going to the full size pic or to an html page with banners above and below the full-size pic, she immediately laughed, saying what an original idea this was, why had no one ever thought of that before. I loved it . . . she had been paying some attention it seems.

Sleazy, she really appreciated your explanation to HQ, of how you do this very same thing, only to yank the rug out from underneath him, with your "I'm only able to do it on my own site. No one else (with enough traffic worth posting to) that I know of allows it."

That was truly classic.

baddog, strange post!

i knew that (at least) most webmasters linked to jpg/gif, but i just didn't know why. was it a rule? lazyness? or just galleries that link to images are picked over ones that don't?

anyways, now i know!
thx every1
