Canadians crossing USA border.

The last time I went into the US was many many moons ago. Im not exactly clear on what is need to cross the US broder. When we vaction we usualy go to places such as Cuba, Mexico..etc and I always used my passport..BUT I just remeberd to check it and it expired in July.

Is proof of Canadian citizenship (birth certificate or alike) and a gov. issue phot ID good enough to cross the border? Or should I get my passport renewed asap?

thx,
Ray

Proof of citizenship and governement issued photo ID is enough.

the Shemp 12-23-2004 08:42 PM

photo ID (DL) and birth certificate are the minimum requirements

^^

What they said

I think that they are correct, but if you have the time, it may be in your best interest to go ahead and get the passport renewed. With the way things have been at all the borders, having it would be the best.

When you're at the border, the tension is usually lightened when you make jokes about your first name being Osama or that you've got a few pounds of heroin in your trunk. Everyone will have a good laugh and they'll let you right through.

I cross to the US border VERY often and can honestly say thats foolish to joke about that . I wouldn't try doing something remotely close to that , if u screw with the wrong officer shit hits the fan they can refuse your entrance .

Thanks guys (and gal :) )

Problem with renewing my passort is time. Holidays are here and in leaving for Vegas on the 3rd.

I guess i'll take my chances with the Canadian citizenship and Id's...I'll bring em all.

Birth cert and drivers licence are fine, but I've had customs tell me an old passport would also help. Bring it all -- it's just more stuff to lose! ;)

Always liked the sense of humor in the US - on any subject.

There is none.

Just subservient dumbed down masses that are expected to address anything in a uniform with respect. There sure are plenty uniforms...

Real freedom is nice - and worth trying sometime!

Damn, woman! I'm just saying that's what they told me. Mind you, officer friendly asked me to give him some of the green stuff that made my friend go to the hospital . . . trust me when I said that it didn't help ME! ;)

You try and joke around with these guys and they will assume you are hiding something..

Hell if you dont have a return ticket (even because you might buy might buy it later or stay longer) They will bust your balls.. Last time I was taken into a room that looked like a prison cell, they went through all my shit and made me sit and watch.. and I mean EVERYTHING, like they look inside your socks, they call numbers on business cards, everything..

You even try and be a smartass and they will bust your ass, keep in mind these guys all failed in life because they wanted to be cops and were rejected, customs was the next best thing.

I was very respectful even though it is against my nature and I was delayed about 2 hours, missed my plane and had to stay in a hotel overnight on my expense.

Try and get your passport renewed asap. Life is always easier when you have that as your ID.

Pipe I feel sorry for you bro, I am in the same boat as you when I cross the border. I always get a hard time :(

I have to go 3 hours early now when flying to the US. I have to give myself an extra hour minimum to deal with customs. Such a pain in the ass....

yeah its best to have your passport but u don't need it if u are CND going to the states .

Pipecrew, can't beleive they called your business cards now that is way harsh ! :repuke
I am VERY careful as to what I bring with me when crossing borders .

yuvalus 12-23-2004 11:01 PM

From what I hear it sounds like you should have a passport and can count yourself lucky if you get through without it. There is so much more to say but this is not the site for it. Hint, foriegn policy and arrogance.......
