Movie content, should I use mpg or wmv?
 

the wmv's take up WAY less bndwith, but looking at some other galleries listed in the tgps, they were all mpg's.

why would everyone use a format that takes up a lot more bandwith?

unfortunately my only choices are mpg or wmv.

Definitely .mpg. Do anything you can to avoid Micro$oft proprietary formats.

.asf = old .wmv

WMV IS MPEG. A file named .mpg could very well be encoded with WMV encoding (which is MPEG4)

And since MS removed the restrictions that used to be on the ASF Codec (the former MPEG4 codec that DivX is derived from) there is little or no reason to not use it, other than ignorant MS bashing.

use .wmv people that do not use it over mpeg, do not use it for one of two reasons, they do not know any better, or they do not know how to encode it to wmv

go to microsoft.com and get wmrk7_net.exe
that will eliminate that problem

I cut movies all day every day, starting with a 300meg wmv file cut into 1 minute high quality clip with sound using divx and vdub, result 8 meg .avi

encode it with the windows media batch encooder, 2.6 meg hi-quality with sound .wmv

if I make it mpeg instead (which I can do) closer to 10 meg, no difference in quality

ok this is good because I have 800-00kb mpegs and I need to cut them down to 500-600kb.

I downloaded a trial of Premier but I have no idea how to use it, so I'll try your suggestions
