would 2 Mbps per month be enough for hosting 1 high traffic paysite?

would 2 Mbps per month be enough for hosting 1 high traffic paysite? I will NOT be hosting movies or galleries on this bandwidth, just the paysite itself whcih will be 80KB for the index(not including graphics). I expect to have quite a bit of traffic to this site as I have many partner accounts and so alot of people will be hitting the paysite.

what do you guys think? Some insight on this is appreciated, this is my first paysite!

hard to say there's too many variable such as are you streaming, download videos, pictures and what the resolution is how many members. but to start 2 megs would be more then enough

well... you know the size of your site (the entire site? or just one page) is 80k.... so multiply that by the # of visitors per day you expect you'll get at most, then double that again to compensate for peak usage.

We're not supposed to guess what your definition of "quite a bit of traffic" is, are we? ;)

ok, good point, here is more specific data:

*80kb is the size of the index.html
*there will be NO video or gallery hosting on this server! ONLY the paysite will be hosted!
*I expect 3000 unique visitors to the site per day (yes, that may sound high for my 1st paysite, but I will have a few paid spots running daily on some of the big well known TGP's and my own sites and will be submitting galleries daily)

3k per day is not a high traffic paysite, I thought you was talking about 50k+ per day. For 3k 2Mbit should be fine, even with few short streaming trailers.

according to him everthing is hosted on another server (vids, pics, etc)

And a paysite with 50k traffic per day would need how much hosting

25-30Mbit

dubsix 12-23-2004 03:30 PM

for only 3k you could just throw that on a quality managed dedicated in some datacenter, either just buy 3mbit or get something with 1,000 (~3mbps sustained) -> 1,500 (~4.5mbps sustained) either way 3k unique ain't a big deal ;)
