Automatic Car Drivers - Question
When driving in the snow, do you use D ,D1 ,D2 , or D3 ?

D
:pimp |
D should be fine. traction plays no part on what gear you use. they all start in first and work their way up to a determined last gear. D3 being third, d2 being 2nd and D being 4th. On cars not equipped with d3 the last gear is actually a third gear. Cars with D3 have 4 gears.
All they are used for is torque for uphill situations. here is no advantage of going in d3 or d2 when it comes to road conditions. you'd just burn more fuel in d3 and d2. all D1 does is keep everything in first gear for extreme steep inclines. You'd prolly spin out more in D1 going uphill at fast speeds as there is actually a lot more torque at the wheels in high rpms. (this is prolly the only time you'd notice that gearing has any issue with traction) keep it in D and let the tranny do the work and if things slip, relax on the throttle the trick to good traction in snowy conditions is to actually accelerate slowly and let the transmission shift smoothly. |
4x4 is what I use :)
