IPods... Are they the best MP3 player?

I don't need 60 gigs to play music. All I want is an MP3 player that can hold maybe 10 gigs and has AM/FM.

Are IPods 'the' mp3 player?

They can go up to $250+ I have a feeling by next summer they'll drop to like $99.

Yanks_Todd 12-22-2004 06:51 PM

get the iPOD mini, it's only 4 gigs, I love mine

candyflip 12-22-2004 06:53 PM

They won't be selling them for $99 anytime soon.

I just picked up a few discontinued 10 gig ones from CompUSA a few weeks back for $129.

That's as close as you're going to get. They can't keep the new ones in stock around here...so don't bank on a price drop.

DutchTeenCash 12-22-2004 06:55 PM

yeah theyll never get 99, ive looked at many others they all look crappy, the mini ipod is small and nice imho

TNALee 12-22-2004 07:02 PM

dell dj is getting awesome reviews but its expensive, ipod only have a year battery life and then u have to pay 99 to get a new battery. Still it is a good player but definately not the only one out there.

Shoplifter 12-22-2004 07:06 PM

For sound quality Ipod rules. I've had some bad experiences with Apple products and support but I will give the Ipod its due.

reynold 12-22-2004 07:15 PM

ipod mini is better

so that whole battery story is true ? thats pretty lame you gotta pay 99 for a battery

Steve_NCH 12-22-2004 08:01 PM

I-Rivers are much better machines, but hardly anybody knows it cos IPod was marketed so well :2 cents:

Violetta 12-22-2004 08:35 PM

I'll check out I-Rivers.

Now that I know that the IPod battery only has a year lifespan that sucks ass big time.

$99 for a battery? Most kids can't afford that shit. Yet they'd probably spend more on regular batteries.

I suspect soon China will have multiple knock offs of some sort and drop the prices.

I used to run with two other brands of MP3 players, but I always had problems with both of them. Then I got an iPod and I LOVE IT! I would totally recommend one if you are thinking about it. I have no complaints at all.

tyler86ed 12-22-2004 10:39 PM

I love my iPod. I've had it for 2 years, and I haven't had to replace the battery.

quiet 12-22-2004 10:40 PM

i've owned several, the ipod kicks ass, period.

awesome interface, great design, very sleek, great sound... and you can also use it to storage large files, photo's, videos, everything.

I love my Creative Labs Zen Micro. It cost exactly the same as a ipod mini, but:
- Bigger harddrive (5GB/2,500 songs)
- Is smaller in size
- Has a removable battery (ipod doesnt)
- Has better battery life (12hours)
- Has a am/fm radio
- Has a voice recorder
- Has a calender/phonebook/organizer
- Sound quality is just amazing

Plus I got a extra battery when I bought mine. They are giving them as a promotion.

At $249, I just dont see a better deal.

I have the 20 gig iPod and it's amazing. It was a bit expensive, but it's an excellent music player with tons of features.

ditto.

as for the Creative Labs Zen Micro, it does not have the scroll wheel.

:food-smil <-- had to use that one.

JustJen 12-22-2004 10:48 PM

Holly 12-22-2004 10:49 PM

Stasia 12-22-2004 10:51 PM

I love my Ipod!

Strife 12-22-2004 10:52 PM

How do you remove a song from Ipod?

I just got a 40 gig Ipod, and while the documentation is sparse in the "manual", I'm sure it's on the cd somewhere (what I'm looking for).

To those in the know:
In the meantime, how do you delete/remove a song/songs from the Ipod once you transferred it there?

Thanks!

The touch pad is actually better than the scroll wheel IMO.

(I've had a ipod mini, and regular ipod before)

Plus, you would give up the extra harddrive space, the radio, removable and longer life battery and everything else just for a scroll wheel? I sure wouldn't.

If you try the Zen Micro's touch pad, you'll see what I mean. You can access all the menus and scroll through songs, albums, playlist without ever taking your finger off of it. It's awesome.

Pornwolf 12-22-2004 11:20 PM

The Creative and the IRiver are much better players.

Steen2 12-22-2004 11:21 PM

I like my iPod but it's the older one. Kind of wish I could have the mini instead.

I've heard you can't!

natik1974 12-23-2004 02:26 AM

Ipod, creative, all more or less the same... can i ask it for Xmass? :xmas-smil :2 cents:

Serge Litehead 12-23-2004 02:40 AM

iriver makes a good mp3 players with flash ram and on a hard drives. All models cary a friendly control interface.

ipod makes some getting used to, other than that it is a nice product too.

JDog 12-23-2004 02:43 AM

I just paid $399 for my 40GB iPod about 3 months ago and have the iPod Alpine interface for my car. Now if you want AM/FM tuner in one also you won't get it with a iPod so you'll have to look at another brand.

maxdaname 12-23-2004 02:59 AM

The IPod prices never did/will never go down, because they come up with new models and get rid of the old ones.

pimpin 12-23-2004 03:02 AM

ipod photo ... the new one is a sign of what's next . . . i wonder when they'll merge all this shit together into a solid portable everything .

phone, mp3, sat radio, camera, mini drive. . . that will be one bad ass piece of hardware. . . currently everyone has their own little niches

xclusive 12-23-2004 03:07 AM

The iriver or Zen are the way to go..
