I agree with you to an extent, it makes almost no sense to me. But as long as you think to yourself "tuna party? that's the most stupid name...," then they've at least gotten your attention with the name, and caused you to mentally repeat it. It's unusual, and it could spark a visual image which would aid in recall. That's my guess as to what they're thinking.
