what kind of file extension is .scr ?
I get emails sent back to me if they are bounced from a newsletter I send out.
The file is always message.scr... I will not open it because Mcafee pops up every time I get an email like this and wants me to scan my computer for a virus. It always gives me a directory on my domain which is not there... its like they have a program creating a fake directory on my domain.. I hope this sounds clear... can anyone make sense of this? Thanks |

That would be a worm.

.screwed?
|
|
.scr is a screen saver. but viruses can be imbedded in it. it's one of the more popular ways to spread viruses and worms.
|
screen saver. same as .exe file. if you rename a .exe file to .scr it will work the same.
|
.scr is a screensaver file like mentioned, sorta like an executable file.. watch out for .pif files also.. i've seen some boucned emails with those extensions as well..

Ok... I still dont understand why I recieved this message: If the message will not displayed automatically, follow the link to read the delivered message. Received message is available at: http://www.mydomain.com/inbox/newsle...essionid-15614 With the attached message.scr I get this email about 3 days from many different email addresses after I send out a mailer. |
.scr is bad news
|
I always get these on my Blackberry....luckily there is no way I can open them...and anyways the BB hardly has an OS to speak of.

someone who used an auto mail creator to sign up for your program and then uses an automated response to try and spread a toolbar...would be my guess |

DO you have any idea how I can take care of this problem? |

If you open it, it'll most likely resend the message (or a variation of it) to everyone in your email address book with the virus attached. It also probably pick someone else in your address book to appear as the sender. |
don't open attachments unless you know they are safe

Yeah I understand that. I wont open it.... But this is being sent back to me after I send out a mailer.... do does this mean that everyone on my 80,000 mailing list is possibly getting this email that looks like it was sent from me? That would fucking suck.... I have not got any emails back from people complaining though.... This started happening about 3 weeks ago. |
Someone has to say it - you're mailing 80k people yet don't even know about the very basics of Internet email and virus mails? Good grief. :helpme

No I have never had a problem like this before. I am checking all my security settings and my mailer program should not accept a frautulent auto mail creator. It looks like you dont know either since you didnt have any input on the matter. |
i think it's a virus search it then see what ind of file
|
.scr is typically a malicious script. Screen saver or whatever type of executable, they are bad.
As for why does someone spam you with viruses/trojans/etc ... why indeed. Must have something to do with their evil plans to take over the world. |
This new to you? First month on the web? Im always amazed to see how people dont know theyre getting viruses and how they work.
I get that shit about 50 times a day for the last few years now. |
basicaly it's a file you don't want to mess with

No read above.... its about them being sent through a mailing list I have. I realize what kind of file it is now. I just need to know how to contain a possible person sending this email to everyone on my list. |
They can bind just about anything to an exe/scr.

Its just spoofed addresses coming from infected surfers who have your email in their cache. |
