People getting smaller?
I am 27 and usually go to bars with 25-35 year olds in the suburbs. I was just at the bar downtown yesterday, little bit younger crowd, I'm guessing 21-22. I couldn't believe how young everyone looked. I mean almost everyone in the place was about 5' 7" and 135-140lbs. Out of 250 people I'd say maybe remember 5 people that were over 6' tall. I'd say 99% of everyone was 160lbs or less.
When I was in high school back in 93-95, all the kids from high school were probably bigger at 17 even than these 21-22 year olds were last night. I remember year after year of graduating classes I kept seeing people younger looking and scrawnier than the year before. |
I don't think people are getting smaller. Bigger if anything, especially horizontally. :winkwink:

Perception may have a lot to do with it. When you're younger, everyone bigger than you seems HUGE. Then you're older and run into them and are like FUCK they're small - what was I thinking...
|
Well I must be ahead of the times then because I never made
6'0 dame it. |

I'm 6'7" 300 pounds and I never feel small...

On the other hand I have read AMA studies citing steroids in beef as responsible for young girls developing @ a much earlier age than the generations before them... Seriously.

As you get older your metabolism slows down and you slowly get used to seeing your fat ass steping into the shower every morning. Iether that, or you were always a fatso. :thumbsup

What has being tall / short to do with looking young?
I look very young, but I am tall. :) |
BTW on a serious note, nowadays overall people are taller than the previous generations, but I heard in America there is indeed a recent opposite trend, because of bad eating habits.

but you do need to go back to school |
Humans in general are much bigger compared to hundreds/thousands of years ago. Our bones are bigger, we weigh more etc. Mainly due to more food/nutrients and other health variables. People in 3rd world countries are typically smaller... shorter etc. due to lack of essential nutrients. But I think one day in the next few hundred-thousand years, 6'0" will be the average height. There's a lot more people pushing 7'0" tall these days than ever before. It's kind of scary... if humans keep growing, we'll be like giants one day :uhoh
And the reason those people in the bar that you saw look small is probably because they are mostly underage with fake IDs lol. |

Got any links on articles about it or more info ? |
Don't know about getting smaller. My father is 5 foot 9/10 at 190lbs, I'm 6 foot 1 at 250lbs. My son is 10 and is 5 foot 1 and 120lbs.
What is interesting is that we are of Filipino stock. Nutrition plays a huge key imo. I came to the US at 4, and got to the size I am. My son who has only ever consumed western/american type food will be even bigger. Of note, his twin sister, my daughter is taller by an inch. |
