WTF!!! Homeless Man Compacted in Garbage Truck

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- A homeless man who fell asleep in a commercial trash bin was dumped into the back of a garbage truck Friday and compacted -- but escaped serious injury, officials said.

"It's really quite miraculous the guy got out without serious injury," said Bryan Weinert, program director for Ann Arbor's solid waste department.

Weinert said there is a large, dull steel blade that pushes the waste against the wall of the truck to maximize space. He said a person could be protected by trash that is hard to compact.

Lt. Scott Robertson of the Ann Arbor fire department said he did not know how much of the compacting process was completed before the man was discovered.

"Just being in the Dumpster and being dumped would have been a heck of a ride, let alone being compacted," Robertson told The Ann Arbor News.

He said firefighters got on top of the garbage truck and were able to get the man out.

The man was in a container behind a bar and grill when he was picked up.

Same exact thing happened here a few years ago. During winter so the indian thought it would be warmer inside the trash can.

that actually happens pretty often....i know if i was homeless i would hitchhike ,train hobo ,ride the dogs back<greyhound> to florida or southern cali..why mull around some cold windy place and have to sleep with ally cats and eat fish bones or day old doughnuts:2 cents:

Happens all the time, some of my family owns the recycling plants that all of volusa county's recycled trash goes to. They had this happen at their Daytona facility not long ago.

Reminds me of a guy I used to know... he would sleep in the St. Vincent De Paul (kinda like the Salvation Army) used clothes bin where people throw in their old clothes for donations to their thrift store, and in the morning he would crawl out with a new set of duds on. He felt like a million bucks.

That happened near me too , only the guy didnt live.

he is going to sue the trash dept. and make some money.
At least in Miami there is a law that says that nobody can tell the homeless people where they can or can not sleep, so he'll get some cash!

Glad the guy survived hope he gets his life together...
