SHIT. Who here wears contacts?

I am trying to buy contacts from 1800contacts and they want to know if my basecurve is 8.90 or 8.60
I have NO idea what it is... is it going to make a huge difference on my eyes if I get the wrong one?

freeadultcontent 12-17-2004 08:21 PM

look on the box of your other ones, or just buy one of each.

I don't have the box anymore is the problem.

mastermikex 12-17-2004 08:23 PM

i wanna get contacts, but i have issues with touching my eyes...i just can't do it! :(

PenetratinP 12-17-2004 08:24 PM

When I ordered from them they required my doctor's phone # to call up and verify my prescription.

Don't just guess......call up your doctor and find out.

Sly 12-17-2004 08:25 PM

It really doesn't matter because they will not send you them if you don't have a prescription for them. Call your doctor. You need to have him fax in your prescription anyway.

BradM - I would think you're an 8.6. Do you have a large picture of your face? If you do can you send it to me?

& yes, it will make a difference if it's bi-focal lenses or torics. If the base curve is wrong the lense will either be too tight for your eyes and bother you or if it's too loose it will move around loosely + if you're wearing those types of lenses, will put you out of focus. If they are regular lenses & too loose, it'll be uncomfortable.

BTW - 1800 is one of the most expensive providers :)

*Eeehhhh* wrong. My perscription ran out, and I kept ordering from them for years.

They send a nice letter, "hey! we couldn't get a hold of your eye doctor! blah blah"

Yet they still process my orders. I guess once you have it verified once, they don't care.

2XY 12-17-2004 08:36 PM

How about making a quick call to your optometrist first thing in the morning? He would be the best person to ask.

Noir, I hope you've at least got your eyes checked though - you can get severe problems and not know it until it's too late.

Indeed I will tomorrow. Too bad, was excited to order them now. ;)

I'm not wrong. Your situation is different from the one asked about.

Thanks, wouldn't have expected this response on GFY. :)

I do, just since my perscription hasn't changed in several years, I lapse sometimes, and take my sweet time going in to get them re-checked.

Oop, duh, you were right. sorry.

I established my account with them originally with a current perscription. After it expired, I was able to continue to order from them though.

burntout21 12-17-2004 08:44 PM

i order mine online from canada no prescription required but u will still need to know your base curve

Trixxxia 12-17-2004 08:45 PM

Well I worked in contact lenses for about 5 years - I've heard the worst horror stories imaginable.

Anyhow, BradM - if it's a matter of getting a quick replacement prior to the holidays - I believe your base curve is 8.6 - if you make it to your Optometrist in the morning, make sure to get a copy of your prescription (since they don't make sales by giving it to you, they may 'forget' to give it to you) also, be sure to get trials or at least a box there cuz you most likely will not get them fast enough before the holidays due to the 'holiday' rush.

(BTW, check coastalcontacts.com for pricing comparison)

BradM 12-17-2004 08:48 PM

Thanks Patrizia.. I think I am just going to call my optometrist in Canada and get her to order them and send them to me. Cheaper too probably.

Or contact coastalcontacts & I believe they will call her to confirm the base curve for you.

Anyhow - do it by tomorrow!

Forgot to add : My pleasure Brad :)

I had that same problem. The first time I ever went to get my contacts, the doctor puts them in for you to show you how to do it, and he tried for over an hour and couldn't do it. He said he'd never had that problem before. Then they made me go home and practice fora few days and had me come back in. Now I have no problem with it at all. It just takes a little practice. :)

Tried 'em too - just couldn't seem to touch my eyeballs!

Haha... wanna talk about horror stories? When I first got contacts about 6 years ago, I was prescribed the type that you keep for two years.

I never cleaned them, never used protein remover, etc. I would literally wear them for weeks at a time. When I went into the optometrist, she refused to give me a prescription for anything but daily disposables.

I wear Focus Dailies and I get them at Optique Laurier (Marche Centrale). I was paying $90 for a 90 pairs, but they just bumped the price to $120. Is there a place I could get them for cheaper?
