Canadian health minister pushing to shut down internet pharmacies in Canada

They're talking about 3 new rules for drugs....

1. counter signing prescriptions by doctors
2. doctors can only write prescriptions for Canadians or people living in Canada.
3. List created to ban certain drugs if a shortage.

This is an effort to not only stop drug export to the US, but also to stop online pharmacies within Canada.

Opinions?

Good. It needs to be more regulated and in person prescriptions only. I don't agree with internet pharma- legit or otherwise.

I just hope it slows down some of the drug spam I get... it's by far the worst there is.... I get way to much!

But yeah, pharmacies aren't something that should be messed with, in my opinion. Herbs, vitamins... sure, sell that stuff. But medical drugs.... that should be only sold by professionals... face to face.

This was on the news two weeks ago.

It would hurt a lot of people but in the end, won't it just cause the Americans to get more Indian (and other) drugs instead of Canadian.

I would prefer drugs from CND than India myself :)

This being said purely because drugs in Canada make me money ;)

good... does that mean i'll stop getting all that spam?

thank god for mail rules :)

no you'll still get the same ammount of rx spam. Most drugs are shipped from india or within the us. At least for most spamming pharmacies.

The spam is not from the Canadian pharmacies that the Health Minister wants to shut down. Those pharmacies are 'legit' in terms of service, quality & so on.

The spam you get is from offshore/across the world/or within the US med/generic distribution channels.

The only benefit I see for Canadians is that the it will prevent drug shortages. These pharmacies ship approximately $30 million US monthly - there's a whole chain of companies the government is collecting taxes on that are presently benefitting from this market - shut it down and the governments (provincial/federal) also lose tax dollars. Who'll be paying to fill that gap?
