Which Linux flavor is Knoppix ?

I think Debian is underneath Knoppix but I can't find a definitive answer ...

Yep. Its customised Debian, but it uses a non standard package repository

If you havnt heard too Novell picked up SuSE linux. If you want a nice install of Linux check out the SuSE distros. For the desktop I think SuSE kills em all, especially now that SuSE is supported by someone big like Novell. They are buying up a shitload of opensource stuff.

SuSe is excellent but make sure you have the hardware to run it. They say it works on most anything but I've had a few....quirks....in the past. If you've got the hardware this is a top notch build, especially if your a linux newbie!

it's based on debian but it's really it's own animal. it's sort of like having trial linux if you don't want to format your HD as it autoconfigs everything on bootup so you have a pretty graphics display on boot from the cd. this also makes it good for looking at HDs you think might be dead, you can troubleshoot with it...probably more info than you needed or already had eh?

Great for when you fry windows system files that the (uttlery useless) windows system repair uses like the NTFS.SYS. M$ fixed it in server 2003 though.
