boner 2.0 12-15-2004 10:53 PM

YES. Norton is shit :2 cents:

baddog 12-15-2004 10:54 PM

I used to use Zone Alarm . . . thought it was pretty cool

Wiggles 12-15-2004 10:59 PM

Zone Alarm is awesome, Norton is a piece of shit and has been for years.

OzMan 12-15-2004 11:00 PM

I used Zone Alarm since 99 or whenever it came out. I switched to Norton 1 month ago. I switched back to Zone alarm yesterday.

Norton fucking sucks and interfered with a shitload of stuff. Zone alarm won't bother you. It will let your programs work and silently stop anything nasty. :thumbsup

korzon 12-15-2004 11:00 PM

:2 cents:

cashman 12-15-2004 11:15 PM

Let us know, I am getting frustrated with Norton too

Sosa 12-15-2004 11:16 PM

The only Norton program worth a shit is Ghost. All the rest fucking suck and really fuck with your computer.

I never realized how much Norton Hijacks your system in the background.

Kaspersky was a very welcome change. It also catches tons more internet website exploits. Fucking Awesome!!! IMHO

snowpimp 12-15-2004 11:51 PM

I just did a little research on this and this site seems to recommend
Look n Stop
Anyone have any experience with it?

Paraskass 12-16-2004 12:11 AM

Norton has been doing good here.

Sly 12-16-2004 12:11 AM

What exactly does Norton do in the background that makes it crap? I don't have anything protecting my new laptop and need to get something soon.

Buy a cheap linksys router, you don't need to worry about firewall thing :2 cents: I never used Kaspersky I can't talk. But I do use the new AVG Free edition and it rocks, updated, free, lightweight, fast and oh free :glugglug

boneprone 12-16-2004 12:11 AM

Shit..

This is a Russian company..

Im sure its the best now. All the good viruses and exploits dudes seem to be from there so this shit is for real.. But can I trust em?

Vitasoy 12-16-2004 12:12 AM

Hardware firewalls are more better :)

Get a router. :-)

Yeah i already have a Belkin Router.. Says there is a firewall on there.

That good enough in combination with the SP2 Microsoft Default firewall?

For me it was schitzophrenic.

especially on messenger stuff. I would set permissions and it would let stuff thru' sometimes and them block it others.

It got to the point where if I had a problem I would first try to disable NIS and try again and sure enough, everything would be fine.

I installed in on my in laws comp also and there it won't do auto update which makes it pretty useless.

If you router have a bultin firewall (and that you are not in the DMZ), just enable the firewall in Windows XP and you should be protected a lot more then 75% of peoples on internet :2 cents:

PornGeneral 12-16-2004 01:06 AM

You should be fine hiding behind a linksys or other router that has a firewall buit into it and then MS SP2's firewall on XP.

The Kaspersky guys know their shit. But with all software its to each his own. Personally I have tried it all and found that Kaspersky worked for me.

Let me know what you find out for yourself...

That's what I thought also. But if anyone knows Windows its the eastern block countries, almost like they have stolen the source code for windows from MS... lol j/k

Babaganoosh 12-16-2004 01:16 AM

I would disable the windows firewall. You don't want to have two software firewalls running at the same time or you'll really slow your shit down. I don't even use a software firewall anymore.

I have Panda from http://www.pandasoftware.com and have been using it for years. It's never failed me.

Ya, I have heard panda was an awesome anti virus also.

Sygate is pretty good

Jim_Gunn 12-16-2004 01:56 AM

The free version of ZoneAlarm is awesome and has never given me any problems. I use that as my software firewall plus I have a Linksys a router with a hardware firewall. I run Norton anti-virus too. You need them all, really.

marzzo 12-16-2004 01:58 AM

I've been using ZoneAlarm for 2+ years now without incident, it works for me.

I tried Norton, McFuckee, Panda, and that Russian one and nothing but trouble.
